Consolidating Ohio's School Districts? The Kasich Plan

Republican candidate for Ohio governor, John Kasich, knows very little about the theory and practice of educating our youth, but that doesn't stop him from claiming to know how to fix public education in the state.  Kasich has suggested consolidating school districts to save money. Since I live in central Ohio, I'll use local districts as an example of what Kasich could do:

Let us assume that Kasich is elected and the first thing he does is pull out a map to reconstruct school district boundaries.  For example: he could put Bexley, Upper Arlington, and Columbus Public Schools together for the purposes of saving administrative costs.

He could then:

1.) make support staff (school counselors, school nurses, school psychologists, etc.) rotate through more schools than they do now.  Today, some schools have a school nurse in their building for four hours per week.  It is possible, that with the Kasich plan, a school nurse could visit a school for four hours every two or three weeks, or once per month.

2.) one, two, or three schools could share a principal.  All other duties would be given to a teacher in the building to handle, besides her/his other teaching duties.  A rotation schedule would allow that principal to rotate through each building six times per month.

3.) all schools would be placed on the same calendar to make busing, teacher schedules, length of school day, deliveries, etc., to make Kasich's control easier.  Local school boards would no longer have authority over hiring, budgets, the school calendar, curriculum, bus routes, purchases (books, computers, supplies), selection of reading materials, library books, school furniture, etc.

4.) pay scales, and any previous contract agreements would become null and void, if Kasich follows through on his consolidation plan.  He could declare a fiscal emergency in the state.

5.) all book selections would have to be approved by Kasich or his special hand picked group of little old Republican ladies.

This is by no means a complete list of what Kasich could do to Ohio's public education.  Since Kasich is trying to push charter schools (especially since he has received massive campaign contributions from the Brennan family of White Hat Management), everything in public education would/could be on the chopping block.  He really doesn't care what chaos he creates in public education.

Are you willing to let John Kasich push his plans on Ohio's public education?  Look what he did when he pushed the pension funds to put their money in Lehman Brothers investments.  They only lost $400 million when Lehman went bankrupt.

The Chamber of Commerce is running $75 million in political advertising against Democrats. Which foreign governments and foreign corporations contributed to the Chamber's campaign slush fund?  We'll never know.

A little surprise at the Ohio Petroleum Marketers & Convenience Store Association Facebook page. The page with the pictures of the staff members has been edited. The picture of Karen Stivers, wife of former bank lobbyist and current Republican candidate, Steve Stivers, has been removed from the page (LINK). Although Karen Stivers is still listed at the LinkedIn page as working for the Ohio Petroleum Marketers & Convenience Store Association, her individual picture was removed from their Facebook page.  You can still see Karen Stivers in the group picture.  At least one member of the family is still involved with a lobbying group.
