Jobs?

Ohio has seen dramatic job losses under the administration of Republican Gov. John Kasich. With cuts to local governments, Kasich has created deep losses in cities/counties.

Plunderbund:

According to an AP story published Saturday, Ohio has seen “nearly 25,000 jobs lost in local government” since John Kasich has been governor of Ohio.  And “median incomes in Ohio have fallen about $7,000 over the past decade.”

You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to understand why: Kasich has cut nearly $2 Billion in state funding to local governments in the past four years in order to fund lopsided tax breaks to his rich, millionaire friends.

These lost jobs are teachers, fire fighters and police officers; your friends, family and neighbors....

School districts have see millions cut from the state resulting in larger class size, less teachers, and program elimination. However, charter schools are getting more money, even though a majority of them perform poorly, provide less to students, and pay teachers far less. Kasich's friends that own charter schools continue to provide him and the GOP large campaign contributions. Kasich might be happy, but our school children are losing.

Ed FitzGerald has called on Kasich to end the charter school mess. DailyKos has the story.

Kasich's inability to keep jobs in Ohio has forced many layoffs with some employers cutting hundreds of jobs (see http://jfs.ohio.gov/warn/current.stm). How can some corporations get millions of dollars to keep a few jobs but Kasich is unable/unwilling to save hundreds of jobs at a time? Are only certain friendly companies getting tax breaks and incentives? Why are other companies and workers ignored?

Don't eat the food!

Facilities are under attack by maggots?

10TV:

Maggots in food, staffing shortages and reports of running out of foods are among new complaints facing the vendor that won the contract to feed Ohio inmates.

Reports obtained by The Associated Press through records requests found numerous problems reported since April, when the state took the rare step of fining the vendor because of contract failures.

The records show 65 instances where Philadelphia-based Aramark Correctional Services failed to provide food or ran out of it - usually the main course, such as hamburgers or chicken patties - while serving inmates, leading to delays and in some cases security concerns as inmates grew frustrated. Substitute items were provided in most cases.....

This is disgusting! Then again, ARAMARK was a contributor to the 'transition' of the Kasich-Taylor administration.

Examiner:

The Kasich-Taylor transition report, filed Saturday as prescribed by state law, shows the winning campaign for governor and lieutenant governor of Ohio raised $1,632,115 and spent $604,960.58 so far....

....On the expenditure side, here are the top 15 recipients of donor cash based on amounts paid out by date:

1. ARAMARK - 120,627.77 - FOOD & COAT CHECK

If a corporation contributes that much money to your 'transition,' you might forgive a few maggots going to prisoners and school children. Sure, the corporation paid some fines, but they continue their contract of providing food service.

The Kasich-Taylor administration has created quite a mess in Ohio--- flat wages, cuts to cities/counties, cuts to food programs, cuts to schools/safety services, dismal job growth, etc., etc.  Now we must deal with the possibility that our school children could be looking at maggots in their food.

Just say NO! to Kasich-Taylor.

The Chosen Few

It appears that if you are a friend of Ohio's Republican Governor John Kasich, you can get a cushy part-time job.

Dispatch:

Stephanie Ranade-Krider, former legislative director of Ohio Right to Life, has been named executive director of the organization after a six-month stint in Gov. John Kasich’s administration.

Ranade-Krider, who, starting in January was paid $32.41 an hour in a part-time position as program manager for the Governor’s Cabinet Opiate Action Team, will return to Right to Life on Aug. 4, President Mike Gonidakis announced yesterday. She will oversee programs, activities and lobbying....

Wow! A part-time job at $32.41/hr. would be a good thing for those in Ohio that are unemployed and underemployed!  Unfortunately, only special friends can get jobs like that! Meanwhile, the waitress at your local restaurant has either a teaching or accounting degree.

Special part-time jobs and those multi-million dollar development grants to retain jobs tend to go to Kasich's special friends. Kasich ignored the job losses at Ormet, Lockheed Martin, Bechtel, EveryWare, and other large employers, while smaller well-connected companies got grants to retain under 50 jobs. When Kasich did respond, it was too late.

We need a governor that cares about all the people of Ohio---not just his friends!

Support and vote for Democrat Ed FitzGerald for Ohio Governor.

I'm back.....

> Democratic candidate for Ohio governor, Ed FitzGerald, has promised to help the state's average families. Under John Kasich, the rich have gotten richer, and the middle class has been forgotten.

> I continue to be amazed at the b.s. coming from the administration of Ohio Gov. John Kasich regarding job growth in the state. Ohio continues to lag behind the rest of the country in job creation, but Kasich and his pals don't want you to know that. Kasich still has to add 139,000 jobs to get to the 500,000 lost during the recession.

Ohio continues to see layoffs as evidenced by the growing list of warn notice posted at the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services:
