Romney would end FEMA

If you live in Ohio, you might recall that in March 2012, Gov. John Kasich initially refused to call FEMA when parts of Ohio were destroyed by a tornado:

NY Daily News:
Ohio Gov. John Kasich stands by his decision to not seek aid from the federal government, despite the severe wreckage inflicted by tornadoes that tore through the Midwest over the weekend.

While governors in Indiana and Kentucky have already welcomed federal help, Kasich insists Ohio can do without, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported.

“I believe that we can handle this,” he told storm victims taking shelter at a high school in New Richmond, Ohio. “We’ll have down here all the assets of the state.”

After a few days, Kasich relented and let FEMA look over the remains of homes and communities that were devastated.  Kasich's reluctance to accept help from FEMA is part of the right wing agenda---- to let people survive on their own.

NYTimes:

....Refusing federal aid is a familiar theme among those on the right who equate assistance with morally corrupting dependency. After the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing, then-Speaker Newt Gingrich proposed offsetting federal disaster aid with spending cuts. Last year, when a tornado destroyed much of Joplin, Mo., House Majority Leader Eric Cantor endorsed the same cuts-for-aid idea. Ron Paul said on Sunday that FEMA was wasteful and inefficient, and that states could do a better job.

And Mitt Romney said last year that disaster aid was part of the “immoral” debt the country was piling up, which he promised to slough off on the states or even the private sector.

But relief work is actually a moral undertaking, a way for taxpayers nationwide to help fellow citizens who cannot help themselves. It’s easy to say, as Mr. Romney blithely does, that the states should take control, but many states lack the resources or expertise to deal with immediate and widespread suffering. An earthquake or hurricane can quickly overwhelm even a well-off state, and only the federal government can properly coordinate the response to a disaster that hits an entire region. Twisters don’t recognize state borders....

These Republicans, including Romney, don't give a damn about average Americans. When FEMA comes into an area, residents can qualify for services that are available for those hit by disasters. Romney's example of collecting canned goods that were NOT requested by the Red Cross, shows what he would do if he (God forbid!) were President---- let individuals, not the government, have canned food drives for victims of a disaster. Romney's approach to this type of disaster volunteerism would be inadequate, immoral, and catastrophic.

The RomneyRyan disaster plan is simple: You are on your own!

Romney Lies, Everyone Knows

* The word is out---Mitt Romney's ad about Chrysler moving their Jeep operation out of the USA is a big, fat lie. The Chairman of Chrysler has debunked Romney's claims, and so has Plunderbund.

 BusinessInsider has this:

Mitt Romney is facing intense pushback today over a new Ohio campaign ad that appears to suggest — falsely — that Chrysler is moving U.S. jobs to China....

...“I saw a story today that one of the great manufacturers in this state, Jeep, now owned by the Italians, is thinking of moving all production to China," Romney said. "I will fight for every good job in America.”
The claim is completely misleading and false, and provoked an outcry from Democrats and reporters . The report, from Bloomberg, actually said that Chrysler is talking about adding Jeep production in China in order to serve the Chinese market. Jeep production in North America would continue unchanged....

BusinessInsider has even posted the Obama ad which responds to the Romney lie:

The Plum Line at the Washington Post also calls Romney on his lie:

...Back when Ohio needed the auto industry bailed out — and Obama took the politically risky step of proceeding with the rescue — Romney took the politically easy position. Attacking it was a good way to pander to conservatives in advance of the GOP primary. But then, when this position became problematic for him in the general election, he began to dissemble about it, falsely suggesting he’d supported government action up front when that’s simply not what happened. With time running out, Romney has run out of answers on the auto-bailout, and has now turned to the claim that it will result in American Jeep jobs getting shipped to China. That isn’t true either.

But this goes beyond a standard fact checking skirmish. Obama advisers see it as central to their closing argument against Romney's character. It isn’t just that Romney failed to support the auto-bailout when Ohioans really needed it; it’s that Romney doesn’t have the integrity to come clean about it now that he’s asking them for their help furthering his political ambitions. That’s why the ad combines the claim that Romney “turned his back” on the industry with the assertion that Romney is being “dishonest” about it “now.”

When it really mattered, President Obama stood up for the American workers, the American auto industry, and American jobs. President Obama bravely took a stand that many, including Romney, criticized. Without the President's determination, Ohio would not be enjoying the 800,000 jobs related to the auto industry, and a lower unemployment rate than many other states.

Some facts to consider.....

* Mitt Romney campaign buttons are made in China.  What would you expect from the Bain outsourcing king?

* President Obama's campaign buttons are made in the USA.

*   Here is the truth about Mitt Romney's stance on women's health:

YouTube

* Mitt Romney wants to abolish the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and turn any emergency response over to the states or private companies.

Mother Jones has this quote from Romney as he answered a question from reporter John King at a primary debate.- MotherJones:

...Romney makes a general statement about how it's always better for states to handle things, and King then follows up:
KING: Including disaster relief, though?
ROMNEY: We cannot afford to do those things without jeopardizing the future for our kids. It is simply immoral, in my view, for us to continue to rack up larger and larger debts and pass them on to our kids, knowing full well that we'll all be dead and gone before it's paid off. It makes no sense at all.
The RomneyRyan motto is--- "You're on your own!"

*****  If you haven't voted yet, you might want to read about Romney's latest lies.
Newcivilrightsmovement:

Mitt Romney has been lying his way through Ohio — falsely stating that Chrysler is shifting its production of Jeeps to China — and forcing Chrysler to label his lies as “extravagant comments,” and “unnecessary fantasies.”

Now, after that unprecedented pushback, the Romney campaign has just released an ad that claims Mitt Romney “has a plan” for the auto industry and “will do more” than President Obama did....

....Remember, by the way, in Romney’s now infamous New York Times op-ed, titled, “Let Detroit Go Bankrupt,” Romney clearly opposed the Obama administration’s plan that saved the American auto industry and hundreds of thousands of jobs with it....

Romney cannot be trusted.

GM Gives Obama Good Grades

* Which individual saved GM? Dean Reynolds of CBS News went to CEO/Chairman of GM, Dan Akerson, to find the answer. (h/t to DailyKos)

CBS News:

"Did President Obama save General Motors?" Reynolds asked.

"Without the money, without the funding, it would have been very problematic," said Akerson. "At the risk of alienating a whole lot of potential customers, I would say the Obama administration did a good job."

...On Thursday, GM announced 47,500 blue collar workers in the U.S. will each get a profit-sharing checks next month -- checks of approximately $7,000 a piece....

Public Policy has great news about Ohio for President Obama, and Sen. Sherrod Brown. See the latest PPP poll: PPP Link

-------
>>>  Americablog has Romney's views on FEMA:

During the GOP primary debates, Romney was asked about FEMA and whether it should only be funded on a case by case basis, or whether states should take on a greater role for disaster relief rather than the federal government.

Romney’s reply? “Absolutely.”

He then went off on a rant about sending things back to the states, and “even better” to the private sector – suggesting that FEMA’s responsibilities be sent back to the states, or “even better” the private sector.....

How else would Romney pay for those tax cuts for millionaires?

Mitt + Ann Romney vs. Public Schools

Ann Romney, wife of Mitt Romney, had this to say in an interview with Good Housekeeping magazine:

GH: Can you tell me, what campaign issue is closest to your heart?

AR: I've been a First Lady of the State. I have seen what happens to people's lives if they don't get a proper education. And we know the answers to that. The charter schools have provided the answers. The teachers' unions are preventing those things from happening, from bringing real change to our educational system. We need to throw out the system...

If you are looking for Ann Romney's qualifications for education policy, don't bother.  She has none.

Ann and Mitt Romney are products of private, fancy schmancy, private schools where children like yours would never be admitted.  Ann and Mitt Romney want to turn public education over to their corporate buddies that own charter schools. According to the Romneys, it is all about making profits.

Unfortunately, if Mitt Romney is elected, profit would be more important than learning and educational results. Irregular Times has some details and an example of the failure of charter schools.  Irregular Times:

At the core of Mitt Romney’s plan for education is a concept that he’s had plenty of experience with in the business world: Outsourcing. Mitt Romney wants to reduce federal funding for public school systems, while at the same time draining money out of school districts by promoting the creation of charter schools – redundant schools operated by independent organizations with reduced public accountability....

.....Mitt Romney claims that charter schools will operate with greater efficiency and create greater economic success than public schools, because they are free from many of the government regulations created through democratic community oversight. The schools run by the Shekinah Learning Institute are neither more efficient nor more academically successful, however. Multiple schools operated by the Shekinah Learning Institute have been rated as academically unacceptable

In spite of that failure, the Shekinah Learning Institute’s leaders are paid enormous salaries. Cheryl Washington, the superintendent of two Shekinah schools, is paid a base salary of $252,498.00 per year. That’s in the ballpark of the salary paid to superintendents of large school districts in Texas with between 50,000 and 100,000 students. The two schools that Cheryl Washington operates have only 1,600 students.....

If you are really interested in Mitt Romney's agenda for public education, read the entire article at Irregulartimes.  In Romney's world, the rich get richer, and the middle class and poor suffer with inadequate educational opportunities, lower pay, and higher taxes.  How else can Romney and friends keep the 14% tax rate?

- - - - - -

Firefighters, police, teachers, and public employees have a lot to worry about Mitt Romney.  CrooksandLiars has this clip from the Rachel Maddow Show:

*******

•  The conservative Cincinnati Enquirer has endorsed the re-election of U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, Democrat.

Here is what the newspaper had to say about Sen. Sherrod Brown.-Cincinnati:

...He used his clout in Washington when called on by the region’s employers. He fought for continued funding for the Joint Strike Fighter, a major project of Evendale-based GE Aviation. He convened conferences around the state to help businesses earn government contracts....

...Trade for Brown is a jobs issue, and he sees tougher enforcement of trade rules as a way to create more manufacturing jobs in Ohio. He voted for the Currency Reform for Fair Trade Act, which allows tariffs to be levied against countries that undervalue their currency, such as China.....

Sherrod Brown has a record of working for Ohio jobs, workers, businesses and consumers, and he should be elected to another term.

Well done! However, the Enquirer endorsed Romney. Boo. Wait. Don't boo-Vote Obama.

Romney's Record and His Agenda

* Mitt Romney once declared, "I love teachers," but he is hoping that you take his word for it. Romney has not been on the side of public education, students, or teachers.

>  Mitt Romney on class size:
Political Ruminations posted this:

In his very first budget after being elected, Gov. Romney cut $248.7 million from K-12 education.

>  Mitt Romney on a college education:

On a visit to Otterbein University, Westerville, Ohio, Mitt Romney offered the following advice to students- (ABC News):

“We’ve always encouraged young people, take a shot, go for it, take a risk, get the education, borrow money if you have to from your parents, start a business,” he said.

Most college students would agree that Romney's statement shows he is out of touch.

>  Mitt Romney, the mastermind of Bain Capital's outsourcing, would like to lower pay for workers.
Political Ruminations:

In yet another controversial quote from the secretly taped video (filmed at the Plutocrat fundraiser) that keeps on giving, Plutocrat in Chief Mitt Romney talked about how he’d like to fire masses of federal workers, and his anti-union sentiments:

I wish we weren’t unionized so we could go a lot deeper than you’re actually allowed to go.

 >   Mitt Romney also said this about the people in our community--

WashingtonPost:

...Mitt Romney got a good deal more specific, claiming we do not need to hire more cops or firefighters specifically, which would, he said, cut against the interests of the American people. He also specifically named teachers.
Romney made the comments in response to Obama’s presser today, at which the president claimed the “private sector is doing fine.” Per CNN:
Romney said of Obama, “he wants another stimulus, he wants to hire more government workers. He says we need more fireman, more policeman, more teachers. Did he not get the message of Wisconsin? The American people did. It’s time for us to cut back on government and help the American people.”

Romney and Ryan want to cut Pell Grants, privatize our public education system by giving it over to his corporate friends, abolish public workers unions, all while he cuts taxes on the rich.  If you throw in that proposal to use vouchers for Medicare (RomneyRyan call it "premium support"), it is certain that the middle class and the poor would suffer more under Romney and Ryan.

Here in Ohio, Gov. John Kasich made massive cuts to education which has resulted to higher tuition at state colleges, and school districts having to go to voters for tax levies. Kasich also cut money to local communities, which caused cities/counties to lay off police and fire fighters. We cannot afford to cut more from education, fire and police departments.

Personally, I like President Obama's plan to train and hire more math and science teachers. President Obama is looking forward on what it will take in the future world economy for our young people to succeed.  We've got to make things better, and that involves investment, not chipping away at our educational foundation or our community safety workers.

Support President Obama for our future, and women's reproductive freedom. We cannot go back.

Well, Well, Well....

* From Buzzfeed we see that the desperate Romney campaign is trying to make voters think that their crowds are huge. In reality, the Romney campaign copied, pasted, and used some photo program to enlarge their crowd. DemocraticUnderground has even more here.

Romney and the Republicans

•  Sometimes you just want to yell, "Stop lying!"  Unfortunately, not everyone, especially RomneyRyan and the Republican candidates won't hear it.

DetroitFreePress:

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney falsely claimed Thursday night that Chrysler Group may move all Jeep vehicle production to China, drawing criticism from the Obama campaign, which said the Michigan native had blatantly skewed a news wire story....

....“I saw a story today that one of the great manufacturers in this state, Jeep, now owned by the Italians, is thinking of moving all production to China,” Romney said during a rally in Defiance, Ohio, before 12,000 cheering supporters, according to several reports. “I will fight for every good job in America, I’m going to fight to make sure trade is fair, and if it’s fair, America will win.”

Here is how Gualberto Ranieri, VP of Chrysler communications, responded, as reported in the DetroitFreePress:

“Let’s set the record straight: Jeep has no intention of shifting production of its Jeep models out of North America to China,” Ranieri said. “It’s simply reviewing the opportunities to return Jeep output to China for the world’s largest auto market. U.S. Jeep assembly lines will continue to stay in operation.”

Romney will lie just to get elected.

RomneyRyan and the Republicans think women don't care about the GOP's policies concerning birth control and abortion.  They are wrong. Women do not want to give up birth control, IUD's, access to reproductive counseling, female diagnostic testing, and safe abortion.  Republicans and RomneyRyan want to "get rid of" Planned Parenthood, the largest provider of women's health care in the country.

TheNation:

...more than 90 percent of abortions—possibly many more—would be illegal under the standard Governor Romney sets forth for federal and state policy.
And take into account that Romney has pledged to appoint Supreme Court justices who would overturn Roe vs. Wade. His party platform supports state laws that impose mandatory waiting periods, restrictive clinic regulations, a human life amendment, and other measures designed to hinder abortion access and to hinder providers’ efforts to dispense these services.....

....Ironically, Governor Romney supports measures that would restrict access to effective contraception, which would thus probably increase unintended pregnancies. He supports the Blunt Amendment, which would allow employers to drop contraceptive coverage. He also proposes to overturn the Affordable Care Act, which contains many provisions designed to guarantee women’s access to effective contraception through both public and private insurance coverage. In fact, the Affordable Care Act’s generous contraceptive coverage is likely to reduce both the incidence of unintended pregnancy and the number of abortions. One-third of US women who use reversible contraception (such as the Pill) would switch to even more reliable methods if they did not have to worry about cost....

> Richard Mourdock, RomneyRyan, Joe Walsh, Todd Akin, and Josh Mandel are the most notable Republicans that are against all abortions.  However, there are more Republicans to add to the list. HuffPost has a list of Republicans who are against abortion, even if the woman was raped or a victim of incest. The HuffPost list includes: Richard Mourdock, Todd Akin, Ted Cruz, Pete Hoekstra, Josh Mandel, Dean Heller, and..... read the article at Huffington Post.

"Small Ball"?

Republican surrogate, Ron Christie said that contraception and abortion concerns by women and Democrats is "small ball" as he appeared on the Ed Show on MSNBC this evening.

The Republicans apparently do not want to discuss a woman's reproductive concerns because they don't think they are important. Republicans just want to get elected so that they can ban certain IUD's, birth control pills, some gynecological procedures, and abortion. The Republicans like Romney, Paul Ryan, Todd Akin, Jeff Flake, Josh Mandel, Richard Mourdock stand against abortion, without exceptions for rape or incest.

Additionally, these Republican men just don't seem to respect women as equals. They view women as 2nd class citizens that are not capable of making their own decisions.

American women have an opportunity to send these Republican cave men to the unemployment line. For ourselves and our daughters, we cannot go backward. Vote Democratic and for President Obama. President Obama and the Democratic candidates support a woman's right to make her own reproductive decisions.

Ladies-
Stand up for your rights. Move Forward with President Obama and Democrats who continue to work for jobs, equal pay, and equal rights for all Americans.

Josh Mandel Disrespects Rape Victims and All Women

> Josh Mandel, Republican candidate for Senate, finally has something to say about Indiana Republican Richard Mourdock's rape comment.

Columbus Dispatch:

Ohio Treasurer and U.S. Senate candidate Josh Mandel wasn't shy today in backing fellow Republican Richard Mourdock despite his comments about pregnancy from rape being God's will.

On Wednesday, Mandel declined to comment on Mourdock when asked by a reporter. However, this morning Mandel was unstinting in supporting Mourdock, who is running for the U.S. Senate in Indiana. Mourdock sparked controversy when he said recently that, "even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that is something that God intended to happen."

In an interview today with Laura Ingraham, a conservative radio talk show host, Mandel said, "I've gotten to know Richard because we're both state treasurers...in states next door to each other. He's a gentleman. He's a class act. He's a thoughtful guy. He'll make a great U.S. senator."

There is more at the Dispatch link.

Josh Mandel is against equal pay for women, the auto bailout, and female reproductive rights. Josh Mandel is wrong for women and wrong for Ohio.

Send in Absentee Ballot ASAP!!!

* Ohio voters: If you requested and received an absentee ballot, your must fill it in, sign it, add the large amount of postage, and mail it as soon as possible.

Cincinnati Enquirer:

A new Ohio program intended to make voting easier could keep the presidential election in doubt until late November if the national outcome hinges on the state’s 18 electoral votes.

Under Secretary of State Jon Husted’s initiative to send absentee ballot applications to nearly 7 million registered voters across Ohio, more than 800,000 people so far have asked for but not yet completed an absentee ballot for the Nov. 6 election.

Anyone who does not return an absentee ballot, deciding instead to vote at the polls, will be required to cast a provisional ballot....

Do not let the Republicans deny us our rights or a chance to screw up this election. Get those finished, signed, and properly stamped ballots in the mail NOW!

Time for Women to Vote Out GOP Neanderthals

As a woman, I don't think it is my business to stand in the way of any female that feels that having an abortion is her only option. When a female has been raped or is a victim of incest, she has been victimized, and suffers from physical and mental injuries.  The last thing we need is for some men from the Republican Party to dictate to women what happens next after an unplanned pregnancy. There are even some Republicans that want women who've been raped/victims of incest to be jailed for having an abortion.

Women are disgusted that these Republicans think that they have the right to determine what a woman decides about her birth control, or an unplanned pregnancy. Here is a review of what some of these Republicans have said---

(1) Republican Richard Mourdock of Indiana said the following (13abc):

Indiana Republican Senate candidate Richard Mourdock refused to apologize Wednesday for saying that rape resulting in pregnancy is "something God intended."

....Mourdock, meanwhile, dove into damage control Wednesday, explaining that he abhors violence of any kind and regrets that some may have misconstrued and "twisted" his comments. But he stood behind the original remark in Tuesday night's debate.
"I spoke from my heart. And speaking from my heart, speaking from the deepest level of my faith, I would not apologize. I would be less than faithful if I said anything other than life is precious, I believe it's a gift from God," Mourdock said at a news conference Wednesday....

There is one more thing about Richard Mourdock that shows his extremism in his opposition to the auto rescue program that saved thousands of American jobs and the American car industry.

TimesLeader:

...As state treasurer, Mourdock more than opposed the Chrysler bailout, he sued to block it, arguing that it would undermine pensions for teachers and state police officers.

"He single-handedly tried to destroy the auto industry," Donnelly said in an interview. Donnelly cited his own work with the man Mourdock upended in the bitter Republican primary, six-term Sen. Richard Lugar, to save the auto sector....

(2) Mitt Romney
Mitt Romney is the guy that said, "Let Detroit go bankrupt," also has some prehistoric views about women.  Republican candidate for President, Mitt Romney, wants to "get rid" of Planned Parenthood, which is the largest provider of women's health care in the country. Today, Mitt Romney had the following remark about Mourdock's comment about rape (State Journal):

...GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney's campaign quickly said he disagrees with Mourdock, but did not cancel a television ad in which Romney endorses him....

Romney doesn't care that Mourdock disrespects women and wants to limit women's reproductive rights. Women are just not that important to Romney. Ask him why there were no female partners at Bain Capital. Romney was not a bi-partisan governor in Massachusetts. He used his veto 800+ times and the Democratic majority over rode his vetoes more than 700 times.

(3) Paul Ryan
Republican Rep. Paul Ryan is the guy that forced his way into a Youngstown soup kitchen for a photo op, even though the meal had already been served, and all the dishes, pots, and pans had already been scrubbed, cleaned and dried.  Paul Ryan is that pushy bully that wants to impose his views on everyone. Just like he barged his way into a soup kitchen when he didn't have the director's permission, he wants to barge his way into your gynecological exam room with you and your physician.

Paul Ryan called rape another form of conception and voted repeatedly to defund Planned Parenthood. Paul Ryan would ban some forms of birth control pills, and despite what he has said on the campaign trail, is against abortion, even in cases of rape or incest.

Besides women's rights, Paul Ryan also wants to cut Medicare, WIC (Women, Infants, and Children), Head Start, Pell Grants, aid to K-12 education, the SNAP program (formerly called food stamps), and voted against the Lilly Ledbetter Act.  All these programs help women.

(4) Josh Mandel
Republican candidate for Senate, Josh Mandel, currently is serving as Ohio's absent Treasurer. He puts only several hours per month in his Treasurer's office, while his campaign is being supported by far right special interest groups that are anti-women, anti-public education, anti-auto workers, anti-unions, anti-middle class, anti-fair pay, anti-worker's rights, etc.  Josh Mandel's supporters want to give tax cuts for the rich, allow corporations to make profits off educating our children, dispose of safety regulations, allow corporations to dump dangerous substances into our environment, and allow corporations to get tax cuts even if they outsource jobs to other countries.

Most importantly, Josh Mandel is also against women's reproductive rights, and is against abortion for any reason. Josh Mandel also was against the auto bailout that saved 800,000+ auto-related jobs in Ohio.

 •••••••••••
Women need to get together, talk to their partners/spouses, voting-age children, and neighbors and tell them that we must support President Obama and Democrats.  We are not going back in time. As women, we need to stand up for ourselves, our daughters, and our sons. Stand up for fairness.

(5) Todd Akin
The Republican from Missouri who is seeking to go to the Senate is Todd Akin.  Todd Akin is the guy that made that comment about "legitimate rape" that was condemned for its inaccuracy, and his questioning of the legitimacy of a rape.  Now there is more about Todd Akin.

CBS News:

Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin was repeatedly arrested during anti-abortion protests in the 1980s, including at least once when police had to carry him away, a newspaper reported Tuesday....

....The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported on its website Tuesday that its newspaper archives include at least three accounts of Akin being arrested in March and April of 1985 for criminal trespass and resisting arrest at abortion clinics in the St. Louis area. He apparently never was charged.

The St. Louis police department also confirmed, in response to an open-records filed by a representative of the liberal advocacy group People For the American Way, that Akin was arrested May 9, 1987, but it said records of the arrest were closed under state law because Akin never convicted....

Adding to Todd Akin's ignorance about anatomy is the fact that he is a member of the "Science" committee in the House of Representatives. Really.

Vote for President Obama!

-------------------------------------

Did you know that Mitt Romney made money on the auto bailout that he was against?

Mitt Romney's opposition to the auto bailout has haunted him on the campaign trail, especially in Rust Belt states like Ohio. There, in September, the Obama campaign launched television ads blasting Romney's November 2008 New York Times op-ed, "Let Detroit Go Bankrupt." But Romney has done a good job of concealing, until now, the fact that he and his wife, Ann, personally gained at least $15.3 million from the bailout — and a few of Romney's most important Wall Street donors made more than $4 billion. Their gains, and the Romneys', were astronomical — more than 3,000 percent on their investment.....

You Should Know About This---

**** Get a pencil, and write down this number to save if you experience/see voter intimidation or witness voter fraud:   (800)-253-3931

•  From the Rachel Maddow Show this evening-----

Mitt Romney suggested at a July fundraiser that President Reagan opted-out of foreign policy in the first 100 days of his presidency. Reagan friend and member of his staff, Jim Baker, said that this story told by Romney about Ronald Reagan did not happen.  Is Mitt Romney giving hints that he, if elected, might "opt-out of dealing with foreign policy" for a period of time? With all that is going on in the world, do you think that an uninterested, newly-elected, Mitt Romney, should ignore foreign policy, national defense, wars, threats, etc.?????

>>>>  What has President Obama done for women? I'm so glad you asked!

Women for Obama:

The first bill President Obama signed into law was the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, making progress in a decades-long struggle to ensure women have the tools they need to fight for equal pay for equal work.....

.....When the President took office, Americans faced the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. Today:
  • Instead of losing jobs, we’re creating them—4.6 million new jobs over 30 consecutive months
  • Nearly 75 million women have received tax cuts under President Obama, helping to put an average of $3,600 back in the pockets of the typical working family
  • Small businesses across the country have seen 18 tax cuts, helping to lower costs for millions of women-owned businesses....
....The President has repeatedly stood behind a woman’s right to choose:
  • Reversed the global gag rule, ending the ban on government aid for international groups that provide abortion information
  • Fought against Republican attempts to defund Planned Parenthood, one of the largest providers of women’s health services in the country...

The Debate

President Obama clearly won tonight's debate. He was strong, factual, concise, and appropriate.

Mitt Romney---
  1. hates teachers
  2. rambled on, and on, and on.  The guy is clueless.
  3. is being controlled by neo-cons, etc.

Make sure you get out there and vote for President Obama and remind all your friends, relatives, etc. === VOTE OBAMA.

Your Reproductive Decisions

Mitt Romney's has had so many different opinions about your uterus, birth control, and abortion, women cannot trust him. Besides, he doesn't even know the law.

WomenAreWatching:

Forty-seven years ago today, the Supreme Court ruled on a case concerning a Connecticut law that criminalized the encouragement or use of birth control.

Ruling that the states had no right to ban contraception for married couples, the landmark case of Griswold v. Connecticut established that a woman’s reproductive freedoms were protected by the Constitution. It signified the court’s belief that people should be free from the unnecessary interference of the state and considered “the very idea [of searching marital bedrooms for contraception] is repulsive to the notions of privacy surrounding the marriage relationship.”
That was in 1965.

Now, in the year 2012, politicians have proven they want to go back to the last century. Seriously! Just listen to Mitt Romney in his own words disagreeing with the court’s ruling:

Seriously, now Romney wants to let states decide if women get birth control??!  OMG!

Think Progress has this on Paul "vouchers for Medicare" Ryan (August 20, 2012):

Yesterday, ThinkProgress reported that Rep. Todd “Legitimate Rape” Akin (R-MO) and GOP vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan both cosponsored the bill that introduced America to the despicable term “forcible rape.” As it turns out, this may only be the second most sweeping attack on reproductive freedom that both men partnered on. Ryan and Akin also cosponsored a federal personhood bill, the Sanctity of Human Life Act of 2009, which declares that a fertilized egg is entitled to the exact same legal rights as a human being....

....Should Ryan and Akin’s personhood agenda take effect, however, it would drastically reduce women’s reproductive choice. The bill declares that a human egg obtains “all the legal and constitutional attributes and privileges of personhood” the moment it merges with a human sperm. Thus, a Blastocyst-American would not only enjoy the same constitutional status as a fully grown adult, it would also enjoy any “legal” attributes enjoyed by adults. Because every states’ law makes it a crime to kill a human adult, the likely effect of Ryan and Akin’s personhood bill would be to treat killing a fertilized egg as the same thing as homicide.

Such an interpretation would not simply ban abortion, it could turn many forms of birth control into the legal equivalent of a murder weapon. Many forms of contraception, including many birth control pills, function in part by inhibiting a fertilized egg from implanting in a woman’s uterus. Thus, Ryan and Akin’s personhood bill could render the act of using many forms of oral contraception the equivalent of a homicide crime.

Somehow I think Akin and Ryan must have flunked college biology.  Not only do they fail to understand the anatomy of a woman, but their ideas about what a woman should be able to do are insulting, disgusting, and ridiculous!

Women Voters

>  Women should remember that Mitt Romney wants to take women back to an earlier time---- before women had the vote, property rights, the right to work, the right to an education, etc.

•••>>> Women voters in Ohio are holding strong in their support of President Obama. A new Qunnipiac Poll has the numbers for Ohio.

WDTN:

...The Quinnipiac (KWIHN'-uh-pee-ak) University/CBS News poll released Monday put the Democratic president ahead of Republican Mitt Romney 50 percent to 45. Obama led 55-40 among women and Romney 51-44 among men. Romney led independent voters 49-42 percent....

...The poll also shows Democratic incumbent Sen. Sherrod Brown holding the lead over GOP Treasurer Josh Mandel, 51-42 percent....

Women are concerned about many issues, including fair pay, access to contraception, access to women's health care, support of public education (K-12), access to Pell Grants/college loans for college age children, smaller class sizes, safety/security on the job, pre-school education (Head Start), support for the middle class, ending the war in Afghanistan, etc. These are all things that President Obama has pushed for in his agenda. President Obama knows that working women want options for themselves and their children, especially in health care and education.

Here is an article from the Chicago Tribune that show what women are seeing in the candidates:

....President Barack Obama has the edge so far. He shows it in the words he chooses when discussing issues that affect women more directly than men, such as unequal pay and contraception. He also walks the talk, as when he signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act.

The candidate who will win the undecided women's vote will be able to honestly discuss inequities that face women, especially in the workplace, yet not talk down to them or only to their wombs. It's about including women as equals without pandering.....

Mitt Romney doesn't show any concern for women and has a long history of cutting out women in policy decisions, health care, and education. With the 800+ vetoes Romney made as governor of Massachusetts, many of those had to do with education, jobs, health care, equality, pay, etc. Mitt Romney closest advisors are primarily male, neo-con alumni of the last Bush administration, who are promoting more wars and tax cuts for millionaires. Romney also thinks that classrooms should have larger class sizes. Isn't it amazing that privately-educated Romney wants to create chaos and dysfunction in public schools.

As long as women hold strong against Romney and the Republican agenda to silence women's voices and rights, President Obama will be re-elected. We want to move forward with our families and our communities, and we want to do it in peace.

Flippity Floppity Romney

Mitt Romney has more flip flops on every issue than anyone in modern American history. As the late Sen. Teddy Kennedy said, "Mitt Romney isn't pro-choice. He is multiple choice."

Watch this video. You might get whiplash from the flip flops on minimum wage, women's health concerns, gays in the military, education,  Social Security, Medicare, climate change, SB5 (Issue 2), etc., etc.

Mitt Romney cannot be trusted.

--------------------

CBS News:
(from 2008)

....The Romney campaign has staked its viability on winning in Michigan, and Romney is playing up his roots here in order to try to connect with voters in a way he wasn't able to do in Iowa and New Hampshire.

"My roots are deep here as you know," Romney said. "Born here. Go blue and go green — got to take care of both sides. My brother is on the board of Michigan State. Met my girlfriend here. We are still going steady and my mom and dad are buried here."

Mitt Romney likes the team up north. Would a real Buckeye fan support him?

Here is a little reminder, Buckeye fans:

> What is Romney offering women? Short answer: not much.

Is Paul Ryan kidding?

• • • Republican Paul Ryan says there is no "war on women" in his remarks at a fundraiser.
HuffingtonPost:

At a private fundraiser in Naples, Fla., on Thursday, Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan mocked the so-called "war on women."

“Now it’s a war on women; tomorrow it’s going to be a war on left-handed Irishmen or something like that,” Ryan told the crowd of donors, according to Shushanna Walshe of ABC News....

....In addition to passing or proposing laws that would limit abortion rights, mandate ultrasounds, allow employers to deny women birth control coverage and defund Planned Parenthood, Republicans have repeatedly come under fire during the past several months for making inflammatory comments about women's health. Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh called Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke a "slut" for advocating for contraception coverage, Rep. Todd Akin (R-Mo.) said victims of "legitimate rape" rarely get pregnant, and Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.) said on Thursday that there should be no abortion exception for the "life of the mother" because "with modern technology and science, you can't find one instance" in which a woman would actually die from a pregnancy....

No war on women????  Paul Ryan thinks this is all a big joke!  Does he think women don't read or don't know what he has been doing in the House of Representatives?  Women also know that Paul Ryan has plans to destroy Medicare and Social Security and this will hurt elderly women.

No war on women???? Paul Ryan sponsored 30+ bills on abortion. Paul Ryan also voted against the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, on January 9, 2009, Roll Call Vote 9. Would you like to see the names of the others that voted against this important legislation in the House?

I've highlight a few of the Republicans because they've demonstrated arrogance in going after women's issues.  Shame on these people for their efforts to restrict the rights of women.  Shame.

Those that oppose equal rights, pay equity, fairness, and the right of women to make their own health decisions, apparently don't understand--- women will not forget how they've been treated. We'll remember in the voting booth, and in the coming months and years. Never underestimate the power of women working together against arrogant Republicans.

*** Mitt Romney supports the Blunt Amendment. What is the Blunt Amendment?

The National Women's Law Center describes it this way:

The Blunt Amendment Creates a Huge Loophole, Allowing Employers and Plans to Use Religious or Moral Convictions to Eliminate Critical Health Care Services
The Blunt Amendment allows employers and insurance companies to refuse coverage of any health care service required under the new health care law based on undefined “religious beliefs or moral convictions.”  This creates a huge loophole in the new health care law’s coverage requirements.  For example, any corporation whose CEO opposes contraception based on his “moral convictions” could deny all coverage of contraception or any other service to the company’s employees.  Even more disturbing, a CEO’s view of “morality” could potentially include concern for the cost of a particular benefit.  Such broad, undefined refusals would result in millions of individuals losing vital health service coverage....

...a small employer or a plan in the individual market could:
  • refuse to cover prenatal tests due to the employer’s religious or moral objection to such testing.
  • refuse to cover certain prescription drugs due to a religious or moral objection to the research methodology used to discover the drug, such as stem cell research.
Read the entire description at NWLC.

More simply, the Blunt amendment allows an employer to deny contraception or any treatment because the employer objects on any grounds they wish. Frightening!

Josh Mandel's Terrible Night

* Josh Mandel, Republican candidate and Ohio's absent Treasurer, was apparently unable to speak the truth last night in a debate with Sen. Sherrod Brown.

HuffingtonPost:

The Republican nominee for an Ohio U.S. Senate seat, state Treasurer Josh Mandel, was booed at the second debate Thursday evening after telling his Democratic opponent, Sen. Sherrod Brown, to "calm down."

The contentious, hour-long debate also featured Mandel calling Brown "a liar." The "calm down" outburst came after Brown exceeded his time limit answering a question on trade practices, prompting a warning from the moderator and an apology from Brown. Mandel pounced.

"Calm down, Senator, calm down," Mandel said, bringing boos from the audience.....

I do have to give Sen. Sherrod Brown a lot of credit for not punching Josh Mandel in the face.

BusterGammons has a very worthwhile post about the debate:

If you're in Ohio and were enough of a masochist to watch tonight's Senatorial Debate (like I did, god help me), you witnessed an embarrassingly one-sided affair.  When Josh Mandel (R) opened with his high-pitched, adolescent  squawk, and stiff, awkward gestures, he immediately confirmed the GOP's worst fear -- despite all their spending and lying, their Senate candidate is an unprepared, unqualified juvenile melting in the spotlights, utterly out of his league....

....I personally enjoyed it when Brown referred to Mandel's signing of Grover Norquist's ridiculous "No Tax" Pledge as "the pledge to never think for yourself."

How many hours did Josh Mandel spend in his Columbus Treasurer's office this month?

•••••••••••••• •••••••••••••

• It happened. The soup kitchen in Mahoning County, Ohio, has lost a significant amount of donations, after Republican Paul Ryan barged into the facility to wash previously cleaned dishes.....

RawStory:

A charity that operates a soup kitchen in northeastern Ohio has faced an exodus of donors ever since vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan staged a photo-op on the premises.

“It appears to be a substantial amount,” Brian Antal, president of the Mahoning County St. Vincent De Paul Society in Youngstown, told The Huffington Post. “You can rest assured there has been a substantial backlash.”

....But Antal told the Washington Post that the Romney campaign did not ask for permission before entering the soup kitchen. He said he worried his faith-based apolitical organization could lose funding if it appeared the charity favored one of the political candidates....

When Paul Ryan went into the soup kitchen, he pulled clean pots and pan out from under towels, indicating that they had been washed.  Isn't it just like Paul Ryan to push his way into a place he doesn't belong---- a soup kitchen where he didn't have permission to enter, your Medicare benefits, and a woman's uterus and health decisions.

•••  Do you read The Nation magazine?  There is an eye-opening article about Tagg Romney, Mitt Romney, the Scooter Store, private equity funds, Medicaid dentistry for children, lobbyists, Marc Leder, and the potential that certain investors and Romney contributors will benefit if Romney is elected. "Tagg Team: The Romney Family Recipe for Crony Capitalism" is available online at The Nation.

>>>> Republican Rep. Joe Walsh of Illinois, said this, according to The Hill:

Republican Rep. Joe Walsh (Ill.) said Thursday that abortions are "absolutely" never necessary to save the lives of pregnant women.

"With modern technology and science, you can't find one instance," Walsh said. "There is no such exception as life of the mother, and as far as health of the mother, same thing."

The comment was first reported by WGN radio. It came after a debate between Walsh, a House freshman, and his opponent, Democrat Tammy Duckworth, an Iraq War veteran. The race is a likely Democratic pickup, according to ratings by The Hill.....

Is Joe Walsh a licensed OB/GYN physician? NO! Joe Walsh, Todd Akin, and Paul Ryan continue to display their ignorance about science and women's bodies.

Special Elevator for Romney, just not for Grandma

What was Mitt Romney's record as governor of Massachusetts? It is not like he told us. Romney used over 800 vetoes as governor.  Buzzfeed has information about two of those vetoes:

...On June 26, 2006 Romney vetoed an improvement project with the price tag of $40,000 with his line item veto. The project would have allocated the money to Woburn Development Authority for improvements to an elevator to meet the standards set in the ADA.

Also on that day Romney vetoed an additional $25,000 to the Braintree, Massachusetts Council on Aging. The money was again proposed to meet improvements with the ADA....

....As Governor, Romney kept a private elevator in the statehouse locked exclusively for his personal use. The elevator became a symbol of his distance from the press and the state legislature, as veteran lawmakers complained about a lack of access to the Governor. After Romney finished his term, the elevator was reopened...

Romney is sooooooooooooooooo accustomed to having special treatment because he is so rich. Romney probably thought that he was more deserving of his own elevator rather some disabled or elderly people. Can you imagine what he'd be like as President?  He'd probably think he was elected king.

Romney seems to have an obsession with elevators---elevators for cars, no elevators for disabled or elderly, and a special elevator when he was governor.

Today former President Bill Clinton was in Parma, Ohio. President Clinton said to Ohioans,  "....when Ohio was down, when Ohio was out, President Obama had Ohio's back. Now you have to have his back."

Vote for President Obama. He saved Ohio's economy. Vote Democratic because they share your values-- families, equality, justice, fairness.

What is the message?

The boss, Bruce Springsteen, has a message for you! (h/t DailyKos)

BruceSpringsteen.net:

....Right now, for the President to be effective in his next term he needs our increased support and he needs support in the Congress, where some sterling candidates, such as current Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio, challenger Elizabeth Warren in Massachusetts, and so many others, are fighting to make their constructive voices heard.....

....Right now, we need a President who has a vision that includes all of our citizens, not just some, whether they are our devastated poor, our pressured middle class, and yes, the wealthy too; whether they are male or female, black, white, brown, or yellow, straight or gay, civilian or military.

Right now, there is a choice going on in America, and I’m happy that we live in a country where we all participate in that process. For me, President Obama is our best choice because he has a vision of the United States as a place where we are all in this together....

Do your part. Support President Obama in the ballot box, in your messages to friends and families, and online. Together we win.

****  Mitt Romney's continuing flip flops on contraception makes many people believe that he changes his talking points depending on his audience.
HuffPost:

...Both Romney and Ryan support so-called "personhood" amendments that define human life as beginning when a human egg is fertilized. Many on both sides of the abortion debate have roundly criticized such amendments because they could outlaw various forms of birth control, open doctors up to criminal prosecution if an embryo does not survive in vitro fertilization, and subject women who suffer miscarriages to criminal investigations to make certain a "human life" was not murdered.

In Mitt Romney's America, women would not even be able to turn to birth control to prevent unplanned pregnancies. Not only does Romney believe that states should be able to outlaw all forms of birth control, but he and his choice for vice president would cut all government funding for Planned Parenthood, which spent more than one-third of its $11.4 million budget on contraception in 2009 and just 3 percent on abortions.

It seems the Republican standard bearer would prefer women take the advice of Foster Friess, his multi-millionaire super-PAC patron, who said women should use "aspirin for contraceptives" by holding the little pill "between their knees."

Women have a choice:

Tonight!

>>>>  This evening there will be a debate, televised throughout Ohio, between Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown, and his Republican opponent.

Politifact shows that Josh Mandel and his Republican big moneyed supporters are willing to lie about Sen. Sherrod Brown, again, and again:

...Crossroads GPS......

....the claim in the ad leaves out critical facts that would give a different impression.
  • The legislation included much more than just the surtax cited in the ad. Describing the bill solely as a "tax increase," is incomplete and misleading.

  • A review of the legislation by the non-partisan CBO identified $272 billion in tax relief for individuals and businesses, with tax cuts for businesses that hire new employees.

  • The vote that the ad cites was not a vote on passage of the legislation, but rather a procedural vote to open debate.

  • The legislation never became law.
On the Truth-O-Meter, the claim rates Mostly False.

The AtlanticWire highlights The Daily Show, with Jon Stewart:

Jon Stewart reviewed Tuesday's debate last night on The Daily Show, and with Libya attack, the one spot Mitt Romney could've had "an ace in the hole," Romney flubbed and ended up looking like Wile E. the Coyote the Coyote to Barack Obama's roadrunner.....

....Romney seemed to doubt that Obama said it was an act of terror at all. Obama's response? Please proceed, Governor. "There's your first clue," Stewart said. "When you're feel you're about to spring what you, Governor Romney, think is the checkmate moment of the debate, and your debate opponent says to you, 'Please, proceed,' 'Hold on, are you trying to open that door? Let me open it wider. The door you appear to want to walk through.

"You might want wonder if, a la Wile E. Coyote and the Roadrunner, that door your opponent your door is pointing to is merely paint on a rock." And indeed, Romney got fact-checked: Moderator Candy Crowley confirmed that Obama said it was an act of terror...

Just the facts....

Mitt Romney certainly doesn't like being challenged. I believe that Romney was downright rude and disrespectful to President Obama during the most recent debate. Romney was also very demeaning to Candy Crowley, the moderator. Mr. Romney may have been some big shot CEO or king at  Bain Capital, and he may have a ton of money, but he was just plain rude.

Sounds like Mitt Romney's story about the "binders of women" is another one of his lies.  The NY Times has the details.

>>>  Although Romney and Ryan have stated that they would like to deny women birth control pills, destroy Planned Parenthood, and decide what types of gynecological procedures women can have, they still don't understand women's concerns about contraception.

UPI:

Not long ago, GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney's wife Ann Romney refused to comment on whether women should have access to contraception in their employer insurance plans.

"You're asking me questions that are not about what this election is going to be about," she said. "This election is going to be about the economy and jobs."

Earth to Ann. Contraception is a huge economic issue for women....

Women care about contraception and are incredibly upset that Republicans continue to dismiss women and their need for answers. It is insulting that Republicans refuse to openly discuss what they would cut in women's health. Republicans also have been on the WRONG side of equal pay for equal work. If a woman is equal to a man in qualifications and experience, she should be paid the same as her male counterpart. It is only fair.  Unfortunately, Romney, Ryan, Republican candidate Josh Mandel, and the entire Republican party have no use for pay equity, let alone have an honest discussion concerning it.

*****  Mitt Romney, In His Own Words, is a must see video.  Romney, who makes $450,000/week, clearly disrespects our community safety workers, their work and the dedication they display every single day.

 YouTube:

President Obama

In case you missed it----- President Obama was the winner of last night's debate. President Obama demonstrated his knowledge of issues, support for pay equity, his wisdom in foreign policy, and his ability to understand the struggles of the middle class, students, senior citizens, women as head of households, and families.

NY Times:

...With some polls offering sporadic evidence that Mr. Romney is gaining support among women in the final weeks of the campaign, the president seized every opportunity during their face-off at Hofstra University on Long Island to assert that Mr. Romney, the Republican candidate, would eliminate financing for women’s health services, block access to contraceptives, oppose equal pay and undermine the economic recovery for families in which women are the breadwinners.

“This is not just a women’s issue,” Mr. Obama said during an exchange about equal pay for women in the workplace. “This is a family issue. This is a middle-class issue. And that’s why we’ve got to fight for it.”

Romney just doesn't get it. Romney, the guy building a car elevator for his beach home in California, doesn't understand or care that women make far less than men in the same jobs. Women are the heads of households, struggling to put food on the table and a roof over the heads of their children.  When women have success and better pay in the workplace, their children's ability to succeed increases. Romney's advisers are primarily men---- right wing neo-cons left over from the Bush administration. These guys are unable and unwilling to view women as part of the business world, and are more concerned with preparing for the next neo-con war.

For a better future for women, and our children, we must vote for ObamaBiden and Democrats.

OpenSecrets notes that the Ohio Senate race shows a real difference between the sources of campaign contributions of Sen. Sherrod Brown, and his Republican opponent, Mandel.

OpenSecrets................................ Instate ........... Out of State
Sen. Sherrod Brown (D) ............ 62% ................. 38% .....
Josh Mandel (R) ......................... 47% ....................  54% ....

It makes you wonder why people from outside Ohio are supporting Josh Mandel. Aren't they aware of his lack of attendance for his job as Ohio Treasure, and his hiring of cronies, frat friends, and lobbyists' kids?

Sherrod Brown: Stands for Jobs & Rights of Women

Ohio voters should be aware of where the Senatorial candidates stand on bringing jobs to Ohio's once empty manufacturing plants.  In the debate between Sen. Sherrod Brown and Josh Mandel yesterday, voters heard the truth.

DaytonDailyNews:

...One of the sharpest contrasts between the two was their positions on the auto rescue. Brown supported it, saying the government bailout helped save 850,000 auto industry, supplier and related jobs in Ohio. Mandel said he would have opposed it as well as the Wall Street bailout...

Brown responded by saying Ohioans are making engines and transmissions for the Chevy Cruze and Chevy Eco because of the bailout.

“To be against the auto rescue, it just boggles my mind,” Brown said....

Even the Cleveland Jewish News reported about the debate:

...When asked about abortion, Mandel said, if elected, he’d commit to his responsibility to “advise and consent.”

Brown contended that abortion is a decision better left to women, not the government.

“Unlike Josh Mandel, I trust Ohio women to make their own health care decisions,” he said, describing Mandel’s position on abortion as “extreme” and “out of the mainstream” by making exceptions neither for rape nor incest.....

A poll on the Cleveland Jewish News website shows that a huge majority believe that Sen. Sherrod Brown won the debate, with Mandel only receiving a few votes. This is similar to an earlier poll from the Cleveland Jewish News from August of this year:

CJN Poll Results: Brown or Mandel

People that know Josh Mandel the best, the people in his community, do not support him.
