This and That

* A report by the Economic Policy Institute in 2008, and noted by Reuters, said the following (in 2008): " The U.S. trade deficit in goods other than oil cost American workers 5.6 million jobs last year...."

Which of our candidates for governor has supported NAFTA and other "free trade" agreements?  Oh, yes------ Kasich.

* There has been lots of talk from Kasich-Taylor about the workers compensation rates paid by companies. (Did you notice how they're always out to protect those business people over the rights and safety of the workers?) According to the facts, Republicans were in the Governor's Mansion from January 14, 1991 until January 7, 2007. Their manipulations helped set the rates in the Bureau of Workers Compensation for 16 years. Then, of course, there was that little problem during the administration of Bob Taft with Tom Noe and the "Coingate" scandal. Taft's administration allowed Noe to use assets from the Ohio Bureau of Workers Comp to invest in Beanie Babies, art, and coins.  That little diversion lost the Ohio BWC hundreds of millions of dollars.

* There continue to be lawsuits filed against Lehman Brothers from individuals, groups, other financial firms, and various pension funds around the world. (Suggestion: Search Google using the terms "lawsuits against Lehman Brothers" for a real eye opener.)

* Do you know why the Sean Hannity charity has been attacked?  According to Debbie Schlussel:

For the last several years, Sean Hannity and the Freedom Alliance “charity” have conducted “Freedom Concerts” across America. They’ve told you that they are raising money to pay for the college tuition of the children of fallen soldiers and to pay severely wounded war vets.  And on Friday Night, Hannity will be honored with an award for this “Outstanding Community Service by a Radio Talk Show Host” at Talkers Magazine’s  convention.

But it’s all a huge scam.

In fact, less than 20%–and in two recent years, less than 7% and 4%, respectively–of the money raised by Freedom Alliance went to these causes, while millions of dollars went to expenses, including consultants and apparently to ferry the Hannity posse of family and friends in high style. And, despite Hannity’s statements to the contrary on his nationally syndicated radio show, few of the children of fallen soldiers got more than $1,000-$2,000, with apparently none getting more than $6,000, while Freedom Alliance appears to have spent tens of thousands of dollars for private planes.  Moreover, despite written assurances to donors that all money raised would go directly to scholarships for kids of the fallen heroes and not to expenses, has begun charging expenses of nearly $500,000 to give out just over $800,000 in scholarships....

And which Republican has associated himself with Hannity's "charity" and appeared with him in Cincinnati?  Kasich

Portman = George W. Bush

If you loved the Bush policies, you'll love Rob Portman.  Portman supported Bush's plan to privatize Social Security.
