A Busy Day

* President Obama was in Columbus today!!!!!!  See a very special picture HERE.

* Plunderbund has a link to the Dayton Daily News about the continuing story about John Kasich's pay as a guest lecturer at Ohio State.

DaytonDailyNews:

Democrat Ted Strickland ripped into his political opponent, Republican John Kasich, and Ohio State University on Wednesday, Aug. 18, for striking a deal that paid Kasich $50,000 a year and an aide $20,000 a year over seven years to make guest lectures and interact with students.

Strickland called it appalling and selfish, particularly since Kasich has advocated that universities cut costs and expect more out of teachers.

The annual payments worked out to about $4,000 per day spent on campus, according to a schedule provided by OSU...

This is an example of Kasich's "Do as I say, not as I do" philosophy.  At Kasich's campaign website, we have the following:

  • Reduce spending so we can start reducing taxes.
  • Use more technology in the classroom to leverage students’ greater use of computers at home.
  • Reward excellent teachers and hold all teachers accountable.
  • Ensure that all families have education choices.

Does that make sense to you? Kasich's desire to "use more technology in the classroom..." is not doable if he has cut spending.  Where does he think that the money for the computers, technology teachers, and curriculum would come from if he has cut money from schools?  Does Kasich know anything about school funding?

Kasich demands that colleges reduce their overhead, staff, and programs, but he doesn't want you to notice he got paid $50,000/yr for 7 freakin' years for a minimum amount of work at Ohio State.
