A Backroom, Shady Deal

>  ModernEsquire at Plunderbund has found some interesting news about the SB 5 "negotiation" story that was floated by the Dispatch.  Ohioans can see how the backroom shenanigans of Kasich supporters associated with the Dispatch tried to make the SB 5 referendum just go away.  This is a must read for every Ohioan!

Plunderbund:

....Who were the people seeking to make a deal with labor on SB 5?  On Sunday, the Dispatch’s editorial page said the offer came from Governor Kasich, but the news division two days later subtly backed away and said it was two people affiliated with the defense of Senate Bill 5.  Why the walk back, and what does that say about the pro-SB 5 advocates pushing labor to cut a deal with them?  It says they weren’t from Governor Kasich’s office after all.

And that explains part of the reason labor would walk away.  Because if such talks didn’t include someone with authority to speak for the Republicans in the House and Senate and the Governor, then there was nobody at the table who had any real authority to make a compromise.

But who were the two people affiliated with the defense of Senate Bill 5?  And how did the Columbus Dispatch editorial board seem to know about this deal before its own newsroom?   Simple…because the Dispatch essentially was one of the people representing pro-SB 5 interests at the meeting.....

......The Dispatch isn’t just in the tank for John Kasich.  On Sunday, they said that they actually represent him in official government matters.

*  Another day, and we see that there are more Warn Notices posted at the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services.  According to ODJFS, the following companies have planned layoffs of employees:

Even though millions of dollars has gone into the Kasich slush fund (AKA JobsOhio) Ohio continues to lose jobs.

*** U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown wants the Secretary of Energy to get moving on a proposal that will get jobs to Ohio:

Coda Automotive has waited for more than a year after submitting its federal loan application to build a battery plant in Columbus.....

It is time to get things moving.

****  The Kasich administration is looking for money wherever it can get it to fund the pet project of the governor, JobsOhio.
Dispatch:

The Kasich administration is scaling back the Global Markets Division of the Ohio Department of Development and could close all the state’s trade offices abroad, scattered across 11 countries.

In a statement emailed to The Dispatch, Gov. John Kasich’s development director, Chris Schmenk, said job-creating functions of the division are being rolled into JobsOhio, the governor’s privatized development agency......

Does the governor still plan to give members of JobsOhio the bonuses he proposed?  All that state money used to bring jobs to Ohio will find its way into some crony's wallet.  Why aren't they working to save jobs?
