Another Power Grab????

Slowly, local control of school districts is disappearing.  Gov. John Kasich, Republican of Ohio, recently expressed the opinion that smaller school districts in the state should combine with other districts.  Now comes word that a proposed bill would force all school districts to begin the school year after labor day.

BusinessFirst:

Proposed legislation that would block Ohio schools from opening until after Labor Day likely won't take effect for another two school years – and that's if it can clear both chambers and clinch Gov. John Kasich's signature, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports......

.....Some in Ohio's tourism industry back the change as it gives students and parents more time to spend in the state, but the Ohio Education Association says decisions on start dates should be left up to individual districts, the paper reported.

Other decisions that were formerly decided by individual school boards might also be taken over by the state and the governor.  After pushing the controversial SB 5, the Republicans and the governor, have set their focus on grabbing more power by consolidating many services across the state.  If they are not stopped soon, teachers will be teaching curriculum designed by Huckabee (heaven forbid!)!!!!
