Politico:
Within moments of House passage of the historic health care bill, Republican House and Senate challengers across the nation were quick to react and vehement in their responses—with many promising to work vigorously for repeal.
Top GOP candidates, including Steve Stivers in Ohio’s 15th District and Stephen Fincher in Tennessee’s open 8th District pronounced themselves “appalled” in their press releases.....
You know what I'm appalled about? I'm appalled that Stivers, a former bank lobbyist, continues to get cozy with the tea party groups who appear to be nothing more than far right wing people who have hidden their racism behind some new political name tag. No matter what they call themselves, evidence of their beliefs was very evident during their recent protest in Washington, DC (see story at Huffington Post).
I'm appalled that Stivers would take the side of bankers, insurance companies, and lobbyists over the needs of the American people.
I wonder how the 50,000+ students at Ohio State will feel about that promise from Stivers to repeal health care. With the new legislation allowing parents to keep their children on their health insurance until age 26, parents and students will not be in favor of that. Someone I know has had her health insurance canceled twice because of a "pre-existing" condition. The pre-existing condition was a high risk pregnancy and a caesarean delivery. Would Stivers be willing to cut her chance at getting health insurance?
Are the Republicans willing to take away people's health insurance coverage?
In a recent Washington Post piece, Dana Milbank wrote about the 1936 Republican presidential campaign of Alf Landon who promised to repeal Social Security if elected. As Milbank noted:
We don't need Stivers in Congress and we don't need his racist tea party friends.
As for me, I'm sticking with Kilroy for Ohio's 15th district. She cares more about the people of her district than her opponent and she has worked to pass legislation that will improve our lives.
