Kasich Questions

One of John Kasich's friends, Sean Hannity, does some "Freedom Concerts" around the country to raise money for veterans' families and injured veterans. However, people are examining where the money has been going.

Plunderbund:

....Conservative blogger Debbie Schlussel reviewed the organization’s IRS past filings as well as reviewed specific distribution to several wounded vets (a DailyKos diary raised similar allegations in 2007.) Her investigation concluded that roughly only 4% to 12% actually went to the scholarship fund and seriously wounded troops from 2006-2008. A charity is normally considered illegitimate if less than 75% of its revenue winds up going to the intended beneficiaries. In some years, the organization’s tax filings indicated that less than ten percent ever made it to the intended recipients.

Hannity’s organization, which has fellow Fox News personality Oliver North as an honorary chairman, denies the charges, but their denial does not actually address many of the points Schlussel made.

Today, CREW and VoteVets.org has filed a complaint with the FTC and the IRS asking them to investigate Hannity’s charities.....

Oooooops!

Kasich Quotes ---

On Lehman CEO Dick Fuld: “Fuld is an awesome guy. He is the kind of guy you want to go into battle with. He is a great leader. I like people who are really smart and really great leaders.” [New York Observer, 9/16/01]...

On George W. Bush: “I feel I have a soul brother.” [CNN, 7/14/99]...

On his political philosophy: "Much of politics is about pursuing power. It’s not about accomplishing things.” [Grand Rapid Press, 9/28/04]...

FYI:

* Dick Fuld was the CEO of Lehman Brothers until it went bankrupt in the fall of 2008 and then caused the collapse of Wall Street.

* Personally, I cannot think of anyone else who would/could describe George W. Bush as a "soul brother."

* If Kasich is only seeking power and not interested in accomplishing anything, why is he running for Governor?

>>>> Have you noticed that you haven't heard much from Republican candidate for Congress, Steve Stivers? Is he just letting his surrogates, like Mitt Romney, do his talking?

Is it okay?

I was shocked to hear that someone in the Republican Party used campaign money to go to some nude bar. I was wondering what kind of expenditures do candidates claim for their campaigns? Are all their expenditures legitimate?

It just doesn't seem right for a candidate for public office to use campaign funds to pay a parking ticket. If the person got the ticket, the person should pay for it out of their own personal account and not their campaign finance fund.

According to the Ohio Secretary of State's website on campaign finance, Jon Husted, the Republican candidate for Secretary of State, used his campaign funds to pay his ($25) parking ticket on 10/16/2009 to the City of Columbus. He did pay another ticket ($100) to the Heath Photo Enforcement Program for another traffic violation on 8/29/09.

Of course, since I've never been a candidate for public office, I just don't know what is kosher and what is not. Do you think it is okay for a candidate to pay for a car out of his campaign funds? Husted did. He paid $17,090 on 7/13/09 to Beau Townsend Ford in Vandalia, Ohio, for an "automobile." (I'd like to know what kind of Ford you can get for that price. Somehow I can't imagine Husted driving a Ford Focus.) The next day, 7/14/09, he paid $340.97 out of his campaign fund for his auto insurance to State Farm. Is it okay to do this? (I've added this information from the Husted for Ohio expenditure page from the Ohio Secretary of State.)

If you'd like to explore more of Husted's or any other candidate's expenditures, visit the public information at the Ohio Secretary of State's website and look for campaign finance and expenditures. You'll get to see how the other half lives.

Silence on the Right

**** The Ohio GOP's favorite former fundraiser, Tom Noe, is in the news again. Noe, as you recall, is the convicted coin dealer who is in prison. This time some justices on the Ohio Supreme Court will not participate in Noe's appeal. The court is made up of all Republicans.

Toledo Blade:

...Justices Maureen O'Connor and Judith Lanzinger, both on this year's ballot, have recused themselves. They offered no reasoning, but both were financially supported by Noe or his then-wife, Bernadette, in prior elections.
The link is more direct for Justice Lanzinger of Toledo, for whom Noe served as campaign manager in 2004. It remains to be seen whether other justices will join them in stepping aside.....

.....
At that time, Chief Justice Thomas Moyer and Justices Lanzinger, O'Connor, Evelyn Lundberg Stratton, and Terrence O'Donnell took themselves off the records case. All are Republicans who had received a combined $23,510 in campaign help from one or both of the Noes and are still on today's court that must decide whether to hear Noe's direct criminal appeal.

We'll see if anyone else removes himself/herself from the case. Right now it seems like everyone is keeping their mouths shut.

Valuable photos:

Lanzinger & Noe

**** Have you noticed that Republican candidate for governor, John "Lehman Brothers" Kasich, hardly ever talks about his planned repeal of the state income tax. After his idea was criticized by economists, city/county/local/education leaders, Kasich hasn't even made a peep about his dangerous proposal to eliminate the state income tax.

I think there are several reasons we haven't heard much from Kasich:

(1) Kasich's big ego does not like criticism,
(2) Kasich hasn't figured out his entire planned cuts,
(3) Kasich knows that if he tells everyone the details he'll lose by a landslide.
(4) Kasich still wants to run for President and so he'd leave Mary Taylor to take over when he announces his real intentions. Then she'll be left with the problems.

More Info....

There is new information on the militia arrests. They were a threat to our security.

Raw Story:

...During a report about the arrests, CNN's Susan Candiotti displayed a web page from MichiganMilitia.com advertising a "Tea Party." The website promotes an "Open Carry Family Picnic & Tea Party" to be held on April 10, 2010....

Tea Party? Hmmm. Do they have ties to the "Tea Party" groups?

NYTimes:

Nine members of a Michigan-based Christian militia group have been indicted on sedition and weapons charges in connection with an alleged plot to murder law enforcement officers in hopes of setting off an anti-government uprising.

In court filings unsealed Monday, the Justice Department accused the nine people of planning to kill an unidentified law enforcement officer, then plant improvised explosive devices of a type used by insurgents in Iraq to attack the funeral procession.....

..... “This is an example of radical and extremist fringe groups which can be found throughout our society,” Andrew Arena, Federal Bureau of Investigation Special Agent in Charge in Detroit, said in a statement. “The F.B.I. takes such extremist groups seriously, especially those who would target innocent citizens and the law enforcement officers who protect the citizens of the United States.”

CBSNews has the names of those indicted:

...David Brian Stone (whose aliases include "Joe Stonewall" and "Captain Hutaree"), 45;

Stone's wife, Tina Mae Stone, 44;

David Stone's two sons: Joshua Matthew Stone (a.k.a. "Josh"), 21, of Clayton, Mich., and David Brian Stone, Jr. (a.k.a. "Junior"), 19, of Adrian, Mich.;

Joshua John Clough (a.k.a. "Azzurlin," "Az," "Mouse" or "Jason Z. Charles"), 28, of Blissfield, Mich.;

Michael David Meeks (a.k.a. "Mikey"), 40 of Manchester, Mich.;

Thomas William Piatek, 46, of Whiting, Ind.;

Kristopher T. Sickles (a.k.a. "Pale Horse"), 27, of Sandusky, Ohio; and

Jacob J. Ward (a.k.a. "Jake," "Nate," and "Guhighllo"), 33, of Huron, Ohio....

Apparently, these people were targeting various groups, including law enforcement.

Monday's News....

** Is there trouble ahead for Republican candidate for Ohio Secretary of State, Jon Husted? ProgressOhio has a report on some people who are voicing their opposition to Husted.

****** * Will it matter that dog abuser Mitt Romney (see links: Time, ABCNews) has endorsed and contributed money to some Republican candidates? According to the Washington Post, Romney has endorsed Jean Schmidt, Steve Chabot, and Steve Stivers.

*Detroit Free Press:

....Gina M. Balaya, public information officer for the U.S. Attorney's Office for Michigan's Eastern District, said those arrested in the raids involving the group Hutaree are scheduled to begin appearing at 10 a.m. before U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge Donald A. Scheer.

Balaya could not confirm this morning how many arrests were made during the raids in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio.

FBI spokesman Scott Wilson in Cleveland said agents arrested two people Saturday after raids in two Ohio towns. A third arrest made in northeast Illinois stemmed from a raid in northwest Indiana. The arrests are part of an ongoing investigation led by the FBI in Michigan, according to a statement from agents in Illinois....

I'll keep an eye on further developments.

Ponder This!

**** GO Buckeyes!!!

*** If you need another reason not support Republican candidate, Steve Stivers, here it is:

Washington Post
:

....Earlier in the week, Romney threw his support behind Ohio Rep. Jean Schmidt as well as former representative Steve Chabot and former state senator Steve Stivers, both of whom are seeking to knock off Democratic incumbents in the Buckeye State.....

I would never vote for Mitt Romney. Any man who puts his family dog in a cage and ties it to the roof of his car, and then drives for twelve hours with his dog still on the roof, will never, ever get my support (TIME Magazine). It doesn't matter which right wing Republican candidate Romney supports, because I'd never vote for them.

**** The new health care law states that young people can now stay on their parents health insurance until age 26, will make a lot of families happy. Unfortunately, if elected, Steve Stivers promised to work for repeal of the health care law.

The new health care law states that women will be able to get their mammograms and yearly exams paid for by their insurance companies. Unfortunately, if elected, Steve Stivers promised to work for repeal of the new health care law.

We cannot afford Stivers, a pro-bank, anti-health care law, right winger to represent us in Congress.

With Stivers in a lovefest with the Tea Party crowd, will that turn away moderates? (See more at TheHill.com.) Besides wanting to repeal the health care law, Stivers also wants to repeal the 17th Amendment (direct voting for Senators). That sounds very, very extreme right wing.

* We need some Democrats on the Ohio Supreme Court!!! The all Republican court continues to support a straight pro-Republican agenda.

** I'd like to offer a big Thank You to Rep. Mary Jo Kilroy for her support of the new health care law.

THANK YOU, REP. KILROY!

The Republicans Own It!

UPDATE! UPDATE! UPDATE!

Republican Rep. Eric Cantor said that Democrats are causing the violence and threats. Really? Seriously? He can say that with a straight face? He has a lot of chutzpah to tell that lie.

We need to look at how the Republicans have fanned the flames. With terms used by Republicans like "You Lie!" or "Baby killer!" or calling African American members of Congress racial epithets or saying that health care reform will be "...Obama's Waterloo..." ---the Republicans urged their base to act out.

Then you have crazy Glenn Beck, who has difficulty completing a sentence, starting lies and telling his sheeple what to do.

Here is a little reminder about the awful stuff from the GOP and their teabagger friends from the NY Times:

....Rep. John Boehner, the Republican who wants to be the next speaker of the House, predicted “Armageddon,” and shouted “Hell, no!,” his perma-tan turning crimson in rage....

...“Let’s beat the other side to a pulp!” Rep. Steve King, Republican of Iowa, shouted to the last stand of Tea Partiers on Sunday night. “Let’s chase them down! There’s going to be a reckoning.”...

....Having welcomed Tea Party rage into their home, and vowing repeal, the Republicans have made a dangerous bargain. First, they are tying their fate to a fringe, one that includes a small faction of overt racists and unstable people. The Quinnipiac poll this week found only 13 percent of Americans say they are part of the Tea Party movement....

There is even a picture from the NY Times showing Republicans standing outside the Congress inciting the tea bagger demonstrators (NYTimes).

The Republicans and their Tea Party pals own the fallout. The Republican have lied about the health care reform law just the way they lied about going to war in Iraq. Their entire political party is based on lies and saying "NO!"

___________________

***Now that the Dispatch has revealed the name of the individual who verbally assaulted the pro-health care man who suffers from Parkinson's Disease, the Republicans, tea baggers, and other groups are trying to step back from the violence and threats of violence against Democratic members of Congress. The blame for all this should be put at the feet of the Republican Party, Dick Armey, and leadership who refused to debate in a civilized manner.

When Boehner, Armey, Cantor, Steve King, Palin, Kasich, Husted, Portman, Taylor, Limbaugh, Beck, and other assorted GOPers align themselves with a group and encourage loud, inappropriate behavior, they own the results of their incitement. If Democrats have been threatened, perhaps the above mentioned individuals and others should be named as co-conspirators for providing the message and access.

Crabby old John McCain said he would no longer cooperate with the majority Democrats since the health care law was passed. McCain wasn't cooperating anyway! What a bunch of baloney. Now we see what a sourpuss, resentful person McCain really is. Aren't we glad HE ISN'T President??????
John Boehner had this to say, according to U.S. News.com:

"Well, there are a lot of angry Americans and they are angry over this healthcare bill. They're angry about the fact that the Democrats here in Washington aren't listening to them. But I've got to tell you that violence and threats are unacceptable. It is not the American way. Yes, I know there is anger, but let's take that anger, and go out and register people to vote, go volunteer on a political campaign, and let's do it the right way. I'm concerned about the amount of violence and anger that's out there … it's unacceptable."

Is Boehner trying to make excuses for the violence?

Then we have Limbaugh telling people to destroy the White House switchboard and it was posted at the NRCC, National Republican Congressional Committee (find your own Google link because I can't stand looking at or listening to Limbaugh). The Republicans had a code red program to harass Democrats.

Shame on the Republicans, their Fox News puppet masters, and the rest of the crazies on the right.

The GOP let the violent genie out of the bottle and chaos ensued. They own the results. The American people are sick of the right wing violence, name calling, and hate speech and it needs to stop.

Kasich Wants to Run for President?

I found another gem about John "Lehman Brothers" Kasich.

BusinessWeek (12/5/94):

....A self-described "supply-sider and deficit hawk," he aims to build a coalition for a '90s version of old-time GOP "root canal" fiscal policy.....

...Some of his "crazy" ideas include limiting Medicare benefits for well-off seniors; privatizing the air traffic control system, which could hike airfares; and abolishing the Commerce Dept., which may kill export-incentive programs. The brash Kasich ducks the details for now, but he has backed all three cuts--and more--in the past.....

That sounds somewhat familiar, doesn't it? As a candidate, Kasich has proposed ending the state income tax, but has refused to give "details" on how the state would fund schools, colleges, libraries, prisons, roads, state government, etc.

Some people are speculating that Kasich might only want to use the possible election win in Ohio as a stepping stone to run for President again. First, he completely destroys Ohio, by firing public employees, closing schools and libraries, releasing prisoners, selling off state assets, then he leaves to run for President?

******* The state of Ohio doesn't have a penny to waste, but some Ohio Republicans want the state to sue to opt out of the new health care reform law.

Dispatch:

Two Republican state senators have joined efforts to block portions of the federal health-care reform bill, arguing that Washington has no business forcing Ohioans to buy health insurance....

The bill from Jones and Grendell also would require the attorney general to join more than a dozen other states in suing to block the mandates in the bill. Attorney General Richard Cordray, a Democrat who has taught constitutional law, has said he thinks the federal bill is constitutional and that the lawsuit would be "symbolic" and a waste of tax dollars.....

....Former U.S. Rep. John Kasich, Strickland's expected challenger for governor this fall, opposes the health-care bill and thinks "we should pursue every legal means to repeal and replace the law," a spokesman said.....

Would Republicans Jones, Grendell, and Kasich have tried to opt out of the Civil Right Law when it was passed? Rep. John Patrick Carney, a Democrat and an attorney, notes that federal law "...usurps state laws...."

**** The following is a couple of weeks old, but I thought you'd enjoy it.
BuckeyeStateBlog (3/11/10):

Today, the Ohio Democratic Party sent the following directions to Republican candidate for Secretary of State, State Sen. Jon Husted, for his upcoming trip to Kettering. In a rare occurrence, Husted will be appearing in Kettering – his alleged home – tomorrow evening for the Montgomery County Lincoln Day Dinner.....

BuckeyeStateBlog even provides the background on Husted's "home" in Kettering:

No water was consumed at Husted's Kettering home for 160 consecutive days, according to his official water bill. [Montgomery County Department of Water, 4/17/08 and 7/22/08]

The Dayton Daily News reported that Husted is "rarely seen" at his Kettering home. In addition, has not come back to Kettering to vote since 2005, but has instead voted absentee in every election. [Dayton Daily News, 10/22/08].....

Hilarious. Since the Ohio Supreme Court (all Republicans) declared that Husted is a resident of Kettering, we know how we all feel about it. If Husted is elected Ohio Secretary of State, he could declare that any given voter is not a legal resident of his/her declared address. Somehow that doesn't seem right.

I think we need some Democrats on the Ohio State Supreme Court!!!!

Which candidate will work for YOU?

Since Republican candidate, John Kasich, most recently spent time on Wall Street with Lehman Brothers, you wonder how voters feel about him.

BusinessWeek.com:

Most people interviewed in the Bloomberg National Poll say they don’t like Wall Street, banks or insurance companies and favor letting the government punish bankers who helped cause the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.....

....As the country struggles with a 9.7 percent unemployment rate while financial stocks surge, 57 percent of Americans have a mostly unfavorable or very unfavorable view of Wall Street, versus fewer than one-quarter who have a favorable opinion. Banks are viewed badly by 54 percent of poll respondents, and 60 percent have a negative opinion of insurance companies....

What does it mean when Ohio Republicans have candidates that include a former investment banker from bankrupt Lehman Brothers (Kasich) and a former bank lobbyist (Stivers)?

***** Lazy Republican U.S. Senators are trying hard not to work past 2pm, according to an article at Huffington Post:

Senate Republicans fuming over the passage of health care reform are now refusing to work past 2 p.m. -- a tactic they can employ by invoking a little-known Senate rule.

On Wednesday, the Judiciary Committee was forced to cancel a hearing as was the Senate Armed Services Committee.

Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.)tweeted today : "Disappointed. Rs refusing to allow hearings today. Had to cancel my oversight hearing on police training contracts in Afghanistan."

Shame on the Republicans. We have two wars going on with thousands of our men and women in uniform, high unemployment, and all the Republicans can do is whine and do nothing?
