*** Even though business leaders in Ohio have stated that the job training program
doesn't need fixed, John Kasich and Mary Taylor have plans to fix it. (I guess they never heard the axiom, "
If it isn't broken, don't fix it.") Do you think that if they're elected as Ohio Governor and Lt. Governor that they'll privatize job training too? Which of Kasich's cronies will get the job? It should be a lucrative contract and I'm sure that Kasich has his rich friends ready and willing to take public money to build a money machine for themselves.
Business First:
Republican gubernatorial candidate John Kasich and running mate Mary Taylor promised Thursday to overhaul the Ohio’s job-training system if they are elected in November....
....In response, Kasich’s opponent, Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland, said in a release that his administration has made “unprecedented” investments in work-force training and higher education since he took office in 2007.
“As governor,” Strickland said, “ I have done what Congressman Kasich only talks about. As a result of our efforts, 65,591 more Ohioans attend our universities today and (more than) 140,000 Ohioans have received job training.”
(A recent story published in
Business First shows that the Michigan program, similar to what Kasich has proposed, has failed and wasted money.)
Speaking of privatizing......
Rumors are flying around community newspapers, in coffee shops, senior centers, and on the internet as to what parts of government Kasich would privatize if he is elected. Some people believe that the Ohio Department of Development, Corrections, Bureau of Workers Compensation, and now job training programs, are Kasich's primary targets. Kasich might also want to sell off state parks and land, the Ohio Turnpike, highway rest areas, road maintenance, Department of Jobs and Family Services, and possibly some smaller state schools. Kasich probably already has lists of his cronies who'd be interested in each of these various state agencies and schools.
(
Note: The Republicans have already demonstrated how they tried to privatize money from the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation when they allowed Tom Noe to invest state money in coins, rare stamps, antiques, and Beanie Babies. Noe got the investment assignment because he was a huge Republican fundraiser. Here is a little refresher, courtesy of the
Toledo Blade:
....Noe is serving the second year of an 18-year sentence for his 2006 convictions connected with the theft of $13 million from $50 million in rare-coin investments that he operated for the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation. He was convicted of 29 charges of corruption, theft, money laundering, and tampering with records....
....The Blade first reported in April, 2005, on Noe's investment deal, triggering a multiyear state probe that uncovered massive corruption at the BWC and led to charges against more than 20 public officials and money managers....
.....Noe is incarcerated at Hocking Correctional Facility in southern Ohio. In addition to the prison sentence, he was ordered to pay $13.7 million in restitution, the cost of prosecution totaling nearly $3 million, and fines of $139,000....

>>>> Jon Husted, Republican candidate for Ohio Secretary of State, always seemed to have the attitude that certain things should not apply to him. Husted doesn't live in the state senate district he represents. (He actually lives in Upper Arlington.) Sure, he has a home in that Kettering district, but he doesn't eat, sleep, use heat/electricity, or water there. But then again, he is Jon Husted, the Republican golden boy! When Husted wanted the Austin exit ramp built, he got it built. The project didn't have to go through the hurdles and approvals that all highway projects usually do. Husted didn't even need to wait for studies, and pre-planning to get done on the project. Husted got on the phone, screamed at people in the Ohio Department of Transportation, and then he got his way. His pet project jumped ahead of more important highway projects. His buddy, a campaign contributor, even got the job to build the exit ramp. After all, he is Jon Husted.
Now Jon Husted states that he is too, too busy to appear in Cleveland at a debate with Democratic candidate, Mary Ellen O'Shaughnessy. Some people will let Husted get away with his lack of courage. Why can't Husted appear with Mary Ellen O'Shaughnessy? Is he once again asserting his own importance? Is he afraid of going to Cleveland? Is he afraid of appearing in front of a possibly unfriendly audience? Is he afraid of questions about his residency, his ties to lobbyists, his trips on NCR's private plane??? What is it???
It might be time for Ohio voters to wake up to the type of person John Husted really is.
