You Should Know This....

I bet you're dying to know if Ohio's candidates for the U.S. Senate support Social Security and Medicare.  The AARP has collected some information from candidates, including this from Democrat Sherrod Brown and Republican Josh Mandel:

...How would you protect Social Security for today’s seniors and strengthen it for future generations?...

Sherrod C. Brown: Sherrod feels strongly that rather than undercut Social Security, we must work to ensure it provides the retirement benefits needed by retirees, individuals with disabilities, and the children it serves. That’s why he cosponsored and will continue to promote legislation to provide a cost of living adjustment (COLA) in Social Security this year. He is also advocating for changes in the formula that determines the COLA to make sure Social Security beneficiaries receive the annual increases they need in light of increases in the costs of health care, energy, food and other basic necessities. (Source: Sherrod Brown Campaign Website; http://ow.ly/ct8tz)

Josh Mandel: The inability of Washington politicians to control spending has threatened important programs like Medicare and Social Security. (Source: Mandel for U.S. Senate; http://ow.ly/d4N2c)
 ____

...How would you put Medicare on stronger financial ground and protect today’s seniors and future retirees from the burden of rising health costs?...

Sherrod C. Brown: Congress should stand up for Medicare and make it stronger. Cutting costs by cutting service helps no one. Instead, we should focus on innovative ways to reduce Medicare spending while ensuring that it can continue to meet the needs of Ohio seniors. Right now, the Department of Veterans Affairs can negotiate bulk discounts on prescription drugs for veterans, but Medicare can’t do the same for seniors. By giving the Secretary of Health and Human Services negotiating authority, we could save millions reducing Medicare cost by an estimated $20 Billon over the next ten years. (Source: Sherrod Brown Senate Website; http://ow.ly/ct8BO   Josh Mandel: Those who refuse to reform Medicare are condemning the program to the ash heap of history. In order to save Medicare, we must change it. Saving Medicare will be a top priority of mine, as this important program represents a promise made by the government to the American people. We can reform it in a way that does not impact current recipients or those approaching Medicare-eligible age. (Source: League of Women Voters Questionnaire; http://ow.ly/ctaci)

So Josh Mandel wants to "reform" Medicare and privatize Social Security?  How does that sit with you, Grandma? As a grandmother myself, I can honestly say that Josh Mandel's responses demonstrate his lack of understanding, his lack of knowledge, his lack of compassion, and his ability to repeat the Republican talking points on demand.

Joe Hallett said it!

 * I've come to the conclusion that many of the righties supporting Josh Mandel simply cannot read. In a recent ad by Sherrod Brown, Brown's campaign quotes Joe Hallett of the Columbus Dispatch.  Joe Hallett said to Mandel  "...You are becoming known as the candidate of the big lie, continually making statements and airing ads that stretch the truth or are patently untrue.  PolitiFact Ohio, The Plain Dealer’s respected campaign truth-o-meter, has given you more “Pants on Fire” ratings for false claims than any other candidate by far......" (see original @ http://tinyurl.com/9cfp8e6).  Now these Mandel supporters are accusing Sherrod Brown of being anti-Semitic. OMG!!!!!

Read the article from August written by Joe Hallett:  http://tinyurl.com/9cfp8e6
I realize that no one reads the Dispatch anymore.

* There is some important information for those that ride Amtrak. Greenfield, Indiana's, the Daily Reporter has this:

Warning to Amtrak from Mitt Romney and Republicans: You're on your own.

The platform Republicans adopted at their recent convention includes a call for full privatization and an end to subsidies for the nation's passenger rail operator, which gobbled up almost $1.5 billion in federal funds last year.....

When Mitt Romney took over companies, he fired people, created debt, but always managed to make huge amounts of profit for himself.  With Romney's Bain Capital record, I shudder to think of what he would do to Amtrak, the employees, and the commuters.  Romney might decide to sell off Amtrak to one of his business buddies.

Mitt Romney was in Mansfield today at PR Machine Works. Hmmmmm. I wonder how Romney would find a Republican friendly business near Mansfield, Ohio......
Here is a hint- - - -
Zoi Romanchuk, Vice President of of PR Machine Works, was a contributor to Kasich's Pro-Issue 2/SB 5 and has contributed in the past to Kasich and Husted.

Unacceptable

The Romney-Ryan plan for Medicare, would cause seniors to pay an incredible increase in fees.

OrlandoSentinel:

Fueled by a new study suggesting the Republicans’ Medicare plans would increase costs for consumers and profits for insurance companies, President Barack Obama turned up the heat on the Medicare debate Sunday.

Obama worked in findings from a new report authored by Harvard University economist David Cutler, that shows that under the Medicare plans of Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney and vice presidential nominee U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan the average American retiring in 2030 could expect to pay an extra $125,000 into Medicare over their lifetimes, and insurance companies profits could increase by $26 billion.

Romney and Ryan, he said, “Want to give the money back to the insurance companies so your costs would rise by the thousands so their profits could rise by the billions..."

Can you imagine having to try to explain vouchers to your elderly parent? With the Romney-Ryan plan to make Medicare into vouchers and take away Medicaid from the elderly, you wonder how they think seniors will survive.  Not everyone has millions of dollars in some IRA in a foreign country, like Romney does.

Those of us who've had parents live on their Social Security and Medicare cannot imagine how they would have survived under the Romney-Ryan plan. The Romney-Ryan plan would make cuts to Medicaid, which is used by the elderly to help cover nursing home costs.

It appears that the Ann and Mitt Romney have been lucky in life.  As Ann Romney said, and reported by Raw Story, "We've have not had a financial struggle in our lives."  It is a mistake for those who have had wealth to try to take away what little our seniors have in order to pay for tax cuts for the wealthy.  It is unacceptable.

More Lies from Josh Mandel?? You betcha!

Did I mention that the campaign of Republican Josh Mandel is lying again?  I bet you are not surprised.

* The smear machine over at the Josh Mandel campaign is up and running again.  They've taken what was said by Joe Hallett of the Republican-loving Columbus Dispatch and turned it into something else.  Here is what Joe Hallett of the Dispatch said (on 8/19/12), as he addressed Mandel:

(http://tinyurl.com/9cfp8e6) "....it is your reputation, Josh, we want to discuss. We’re worried about it, because the campaign you’ve been running has smelled like our cigars..."

“..Still, you have self-inflicted wounds during this campaign that are hurting your reputation long term, win or lose. You are becoming known as the candidate of the big lie, continually making statements and airing ads that stretch the truth or are patently untrue. PolitiFact Ohio, The Plain Dealer’s respected campaign truth-o-meter, has given you more “Pants on Fire” ratings for false claims than any other candidate by far….”

Josh Mandel has refused to stop lying about Sen. Sherrod Brown, the Affordable Care Act, taxes, his own run for the Senate, and his handpicked staff of frat boys, their relatives, and his friends. It is no surprise that the Josh Mandel smear machine that threw lies about Kevin Boyce around in 2010 would continue to lie in Mandel's next campaign.

Josh Mandel talks about integrity?  Honesty? Give me a break!  I think Mandel doesn't know the meanings of the words. Do you think it would help if the Mandel campaign got copies of the definitions of honesty and integrity? In case you are interested, you might want to send some email to Mandel's campaign: joshmandel@joshmandel.com travis@joshmandel.com

You might also want to ask him why he doesn't mention "veterans" or the "middle class" in his jobs plan.

Fired Up for President Obama!!!

****We are thankful that President Barack Obama is the President and we must work to be certain that he wins re-election!!!!!  I LOVED the Democratic convention!  There was so much love, enthusiasm, and excitement!!!!

* Loved these lines from last night----
Mitt Romney and his running mate are "new to foreign policy."- President Obama

Of President Obama, Joe Biden said, "....he has compassion in his heart and a spine of steel..." (Link)

"Is Osama bin Laden better off today than he was four years ago?"- John Kerry

We've got to support Democratic candidates so that President Obama gets his agenda for health care, education, protecting Social Security and Medicare, jobs, college education, and reproductive freedom. When Democrats win, the middle class wins.

* It is comical that after spending the entire election cycle talking about having more tax cuts for the rich and corporations, Josh Mandel, Ohio's absent Treasurer, has just discovered the middle class.  It is just odd that he didn't include the words "middle class" in his jobs plan.  As a veteran himself, Mandel totally forgot about including jobs for veterans in his plan.  Has Josh Mandel sold his soul to the far right in exchange for his potential votes?

Why do Romney, Ryan, Mandel, and Republicans want to end the use of some birth control pills? Why are they coming in between women and their physicians?  Republicans talk about freedom, but they are against freedom for women?????

Women's Rights- Go Back??????

* Hey, ladies!   The Republicans and their neanderthal right wing supporters have revealed their goals for women!

Raw Story:

American Family Association radio host Bryan Fischer confirmed Democrats’ worst fears on Wednesday, insisting that standing for equal rights is so evil that America risks “God’s judgement” if it doesn’t join Republicans in their push for a return “to the dawn of creation” when it comes to women’s health care....

....“You know, Barack Obama is out there, or the Democrats are out there, saying we want to go back, the Republicans want to take us back to the days of black and white TV,” Fischer said on Wednesday’s radio broadcast. “And I say no. We’re going way, way, way back further than that. We are going all the way back to the dawn of creation.”

Isn't that enlightening?  The American Family Association, the Republicans, Romney, and the far right, want to take women back to the "dawn of creation."  Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, and Josh Mandel want to outlaw some birth control pills. They want to end college loans and grants, give corporations money to run schools, and give our tax money to failing charter schools. Does any of this sound appealing? NO. NO. NO!

If you truly want to get our country moving for everyone, and protect women's rights and education, you must vote for President Obama, and give him Democrats in the House and the Senate that will work with him on jobs bills.

Josh Mandel Should be Ashamed....

* Why does Josh Mandel continue to get more money from secret PACs than from Ohio voters?  Josh Mandel has received most of his campaign cash from outside of the state.

Shame on Republican Tea Party favorite, Josh Mandel, for being against the "auto bailout" that saved 850,000 jobs in Ohio and jobs across the country.  Josh Mandel, Ohio's absent Treasurer, said that Sen. Sherrod Brown "....should be ashamed..." of his auto bail out vote. http://tinyurl.com/cpf9fdx

-Josh Mandel should be ashamed that he is against American jobs.

-Josh Mandel should be ashamed that he doesn't trust women to make their own health choices.

-Josh Mandel should be ashamed that he thinks businesses should get tax breaks for sending jobs overseas.

-Josh Mandel should be ashamed of not knowing how much money of Ohio's pensions are in the Ohio Treasury.

-Josh Mandel should be ashamed of pandering to the likes of Karl Rove, the Koch Brothers, FreedomWorks, and Americans for (their own) Prosperity.

-Josh Mandel should be ashamed of being AGAINST equal pay for equal work and the renewal of the VAWA legislation (Violence Against Women Act).

-Josh Mandel should be ashamed to be for more tax breaks for corporations and the wealthy.

-Josh Mandel is out of touch with the middle class, women, and the working people of Ohio.

>>> Former President Bill Clinton gave a great speech last night. Here are some highlights from his speech: (from my notes....)

We Democrats have a relentless focus on the future....
...We’re in it together is a far better philosophy that “you’re on your own.”

...When times are tough, constant conflict does not work....  (Did you hear that Republicans????)

...When President Obama took office, we were losing 750,000 jobs per month....

....President Obama closed the donut hole in the Medicare drug care and added 8 years to Medicare's survival....

.....Romney wants to give money back to insurance companies, open up the donut hole on Medicare drugs so seniors have to pay more, .....make Medicare go broke in 2016, and then their voucher program doesn't kick in until 2023......

.....Republicans said, "We are not going to let our campaign be dictated by fact checkers...."
(The Republicans admit they will be lying???)

Thank you, Bill Clinton!!!!

In case you missed it.....

* First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, gave a great speech last night. It was emotional, and it was true.  Mrs. Obama's words, that she and her husband, Barack, were...."...So young, so in love, so in debt..." hit home here, and I'm sure around the country. My husband and I both had student loans, and we paid them back.  As Michelle Obama said, because of their own college debt, President Obama has made great efforts to increase Pell Grants, and keep college interest rates low. All I can say is Michelle Obama captured our hearts and our support!

>>>> Former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland gave a great speech last night. Strickland has always cared about the hardworking men and women of Ohio and our public schools.  With Strickland in the Governor's office, at least we knew he was watching out for the people of Ohio------ not his business cronies.

• • • Trouble in the office of Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel?????  If Twitter is an indication....

Many Staffers in Josh Mandel offices taking to blogs, none too happy with Mandel senate run, lies, not working, friends

What else can you expect from Josh Mandel and his wild ambitions and colossal ego?  He has turned off the people who've been doing all his work, while he travels, and skips work.

Ridiculousness

• Republican Josh Mandel, Ohio's absent Treasurer and perpetual candidate, has firmly stated that he was against the auto bailout that President Obama championed.

- Josh Mandel obviously doesn't care that over 1,000,000 jobs were saved in the USA.
- Josh Mandel doesn't care that 850,000 Ohio jobs related to the auto industry were saved.
- Josh Mandel doesn't care that the middle class families of auto workers are safe.
- Josh Mandel doesn't care that repealing the Affordable Health Care Act will hurt  women.

>>>>  Josh Mandel's jobs plan, is a plan without veterans, the middle class, blue collar workers, job safety, the trades, college graduates, etc. Mandel's plan is a plan of ridiculousness.

Mentions in Mandel's jobs plan:
veterans = 0    women= 0    equal pay =0    middle class = 0     blue collar = 0
teachers = 0    job safety = 0   business owners = 2    job creators = 5
wages = 0     pensions = 0    college graduates = 0

Josh Mandel has a plan that doesn't include anyone but his cronies.

*  Here is a poll that will catch you by surprise.
Cleveland Jewish News:

In an online poll the CJN asked, "If the election were held today, who would get your vote?" The choices offered were: Sherrod Brown,Josh Mandel or "I'm not voting."

At the close of the poll Sherrod Brown was selected by 81% of respondents, Josh Mandel by 18% and 1% affirmed that they would not be voting.

CJN Poll Results: Brown or Mandel

CJN Poll Results: Brown or Mandel

Sherrod Brown 81% | Josh Mandel 18% | 1% chose "I'm not voting."

The people that know Josh Mandel the most, just don't like him and his right wing politics.

If Mandel wins, the right wingers will control the Senate. Women, children, the elderly, college students, and the middle class will lose.

*** Republican leader, Rep. Eric Cantor, is wrong on many issues, but today I'd like to spotlight this one---

RawStory:

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) on Monday mistakenly described Labor Day as a celebration of entrepreneurs and business owners, rather than workers...

...However, Labor Day actually celebrates the victories of trade and labor organizations in the United States, who fought for 8-hour work days and other standards that most Americans take for granted....

Once again, Eric Cantor demonstrates his arrogance and stupidity. Cantor finds it impossible to recognize the men and women that built this country. Shame. Shame. Shame.

Josh Mandel's over-inflated ego and imagined legislative experience...

* When a Republican candidate claims that he has "blue collar roots," should we believe him?  Sometimes it pays to do a little digging.

Josh Mandel wrote a letter to the editor of the Columbus Dispatch. Here are some excerpts from the Mandel's Dispatch letter:

...I'm confident my experience and accomplishments in the state legislature, state treasurer's office and Marine Corps, combined with my blue-collar roots and education from Ohio State University, Case Western Reserve University Law School and life's school of hard knocks, have put the tools on my belt for me to be a scrappy, hardworking and thoughtful U.S. senator on behalf of Ohio's 11.5 million residents....

Does Josh Mandel really have "blue-collar roots" in Beachwood, Ohio? (Depending on how far back we go into a family's history, we all have "blue-collar roots.") Is Josh Mandel referring to his father or grandfather?  My father helped build ships.  My maternal grandfather was a bricklayer, and my fraternal grandfather was a carpenter.

Here are some facts about Josh Mandel----

- Mandel graduated from Beachwood High School in 1996.

- Beachwood, Ohio, is and always has been an affluent suburb of Cleveland. Beachwood is the home to Beachwood Place, a very upscale mall. We have visited Beachwood, Ohio, many, many times and the words "blue collar roots" have never come to mind in describing the area.

- Josh Mandel's father has been a practicing attorney since the mid-1970's.  Do you know of any attorneys, past or present, that would be classified as "blue collar" workers?

- Mandel graduated from Ohio State in 2000, and went to law school at Case Western Reserve. He took the bar exam, but there is no record of him passing it.

- Mandel was elected to the Ohio House in 2006, took office in 2007, and ran for Ohio Treasurer in 2009.

- During his term in the Ohio House of Representatives, Mandel voted with his Republican colleagues 95% of the time. As I've written before, Mandel's legislative experience is weak, and barely in evidence.  Republican Josh Mandel was the primary sponsor of only 4 bills while he served in the Ohio House of Representatives.  In the 128th General Assembly, Mandel and Jay Goyal sponsored HB 123 (there are no recorded votes on HB 123) and HB 171 (HB 171 never came up for a vote).   Both HB 123 and HB 171 were assigned to a committee, but nothing else happened to his legislation.

- Josh Mandel voted against making cockfighting a felony???
Cleveland:

....Cockfighting is now a fourth-degree misdemeanor in Ohio. Penalty: No more than 30 days in jail, a fine no greater than $250. In contrast, House Bill 108 would make cockfighting a fifth-degree felony. Penalty: Up to 12 months in jail, a fine of up to $2,500. Second offenses would draw steeper penalties.....
.....Among 19 representatives voting "no" were Lyndhurst Republican Josh Mandel, whose district includes Brecksville, Chagrin Falls, Independence, and Solon -- not, you'd think, cockfighting capitals....

That is amazing.  Now we know there are two Republicans who are for animal cruelty.
(1.)  The Republican Party has Romney who put his dog in a kennel and then tied the kennel to the top of his car.
(2.)  The Ohio Republican Party has Josh Mandel who voted against making cockfighting a felony.

- Mandel's activity in the 127th session, wasn't noteworthy either.  Mandel only sponsored 2 bills, HB 151 (there was no vote on HB 151) and HB 644 (there was never a vote taken on HB 644). HB 151 and HB 644 never came before the entire Ohio House for a vote.

- Mandel wants us to count the minutes that he has spent as Ohio Treasurer as his experience????  Are you kidding me?  Josh Mandel started his campaign for his next office just 80+ days after being sworn in as Treasurer. He has been absent from office while he has visited other states, all 88 counties in Ohio, and a country (the Bahamas) to collect campaign cash.

On the other hand, according to Govtrack, Sen. Sherrod Brown has sponsored many pieces of legislation while he has been in the U.S. Senate. You can see all 44 pages of Sen. Sherrod Brown's sponsored legislation at this link.

Josh Mandel's letter to the editor is pure fiction.  Don't be fooled. Mandel is a puppet of the right wing that will take away women's rights, and support tax cuts for the rich.  We cannot forget that Mandel was for SB 5. We need to keep Sherrod Brown in the Senate. Sherrod Brown has demonstrated his hard work for every group in Ohio and our veterans.

For those that know Josh Mandel, his claim of "...life's school of hard knocks..."  is laughable and ridiculous. We thank him for his service as a Marine, but his accomplishments as an elected public official have been miniscule and overdone.

 ••••• ••••• •••••
Update: My 91 year old mother-in-law said the following about Josh Mandel's claim to "blue collar roots"----> "He is full of ____!"

Leave it to my mother-in-law to tell it like it is.

Move Forward or Go Back to Failed Policies

****  Where do you want the country to move? Should we move forward with President Obama, or back to the failed policies of the past with Romney?  Moving forward with President Obama sounds better to me!  We need a more inclusive society, not a Romney society where only rich, white men have power (and dogs are put on the roof).

• • •> There is still plenty of fall out from the charges by Josh Mandel, Ohio's absent Treasurer and current Republican candidate. Josh Mandel said that Sen. Sherrod Brown's vote was, according to Mandel, "un-American."

Ohio-votes:

...Thursday, local veterans, including two retired Army Generals, denounced Mandel’s choice of words. Ret. Major General Dennis Laich said, "having spent 35 years in the military, I have a sense of what un-American looks like in terms of words and deeds and I can tell you that the vote that Senator Brown took, in no way, represents an un-American act."

...Retired Army Brigadier General Sam Kindred took offense at Mandel’s suggestion that Senator Brown’s vote was somehow “un-American.” “It belittles those Americans who put their lives on the line or are putting their lives on the line every day fighting the real un-Americans – It denigrates their service.”

Major General Laich said he and other veterans applaud Mandel for his service in the Marine Corps. But Laich says Senator Brown’s experience with military issues at a national strategic level far outweighs Mandel’s experience as a Marine at the tactical level....

Once again, Ohio voters are witnesses to the depth of Josh Mandel's knowledge of policy, issues, and ethics.  He has none.  Josh Mandel is a puppet for the far right. The people that want to privatize Social Security, give vouchers to your grandparents for Medicare, end Medicaid for the poor, close public schools, and provide more tax cuts for millionaires, are pulling the strings for the awkward, candidate, GOPer Josh Mandel.

*  Mitt Romney's speech doesn't mention things that are important to Americans: Social Security, Medicare, Iraq, ending the war in Afghanistan, immigration, etc. http://tinyurl.com/9zcrzkh

Romney: Gets Rich Off of Outsourcing

Your future under a Romney presidency might look like this-----
OmahaSteve posted this text and video at DemocraticUnderground:

Mitt Romney says he didn't ship our jobs to China, he's "sharing with the world."
How generous.

In newly released footage, Mitt Romney tells donors the story of visiting China with his Bain Capital friends and seeing a crowded factory with fences, barbed wire, and guard towers -- but rather than being outraged, he holds this up as a shining example of how our economy should work.

As you know, I'm losing my job to China. So I sat down with my coworkers at Sensata and we taped this response to Mitt Romney's video:

This video was a response to a released video of Mitt Romney talking about the working conditions in China. You can see the video at Crooks and Liars.

>>>  Is Republican Rep. Steve Stivers afraid to debate Democrat Pat Lang?  Read the article at Athensnews and you decide. Sounds to me that Steve Stivers is disrespecting Pat Lang and his supporters.

Mandel + Paul Ryan: Still Lying

* Don't forget to read the editorial about Ohio's "Cartoon Candidate"- Josh Mandel, at Ohio.com.

* Huffington Post has quite an interesting collection of Paul Ryan's lies. Here is an example from HuffPost:

...Ryan then noted that Obama, while campaigning for president, promised that a GM plant in Wisconsin would not shut down. "That plant didn’t last another year. It is locked up and empty to this day. And that’s how it is in so many towns today, where the recovery that was promised is nowhere in sight," Ryan said.

Except Obama didn't promise that. And the plant closed in December 2008 -- while George W. Bush was president.

It was just one of several striking and demonstrably misleading elements of Ryan's much-anticipated acceptance speech. And it comes just days after Romney pollster Neil Newhouse warned, defending the campaign's demonstrably false ads claiming Obama removed work requirements from welfare, "We're not going to let our campaign be dictated by fact-checkers."

Obviously, Paul Ryan would rather tell lies than provide facts. With their pollster admitting they'll be lying, why would anyone believe anything that comes from Romney=Ryan, and the campaign? The Romney-Ryan team is more interested in lies, demoralizing and disrespecting women, and getting tax cuts for millionaires, billionaires, and their contributors.  Do you recall what Paul Ryan said about rape?

Raw Story:

Vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan says that he personally believes that rape is just another “method of conception” and not an excuse to allow abortions....

That is a horrifying statement to make. When you think of all the women that have been brutally raped, Paul Ryan dismisses their mental and physical scars as nothing.

Lose Pay for a Day? The Romney-Mandel Way!

*** When I saw the video of Mitt Romney and Josh Mandel speaking in front of coal miners, I noticed that the coal miners did not appear to be happy.  They all looked mad, and without any interest in the speakers.  Now the truth comes out----they were props.

PlainDealer:

When GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney visited an Ohio coal mine this month to promote jobs in the coal industry, workers who appeared with him at the rally lost pay because their mine was shut down.

The Pepper Pike company that owns the Century Mine told workers that attending the Aug. 14 Romney event would be both mandatory and unpaid, a top company official said Monday morning in a West Virginia radio interview.

A group of employees who feared they'd be fired if they didn't attend the campaign rally in Beallsville, Ohio, complained about it to WWVA radio station talk show host David Blomquist. Blomquist discussed their beefs on the air Monday with Murray Energy Chief Financial Officer Rob Moore.....

It was MANDATORY!  This was the event where right wing puppet, Josh Mandel, tried out his southern accent and made an issue of contributors from New York and Hollywood (even though he himself has gotten mega bucks from California and New York, and has visited both coasts for fundraisers numerous times).  OpenSecrets noted that Mandel has received over $400,000 in campaign contribution from New York City. Mandel's supporters in California, have given him over $300,000 in contributions (see OpenSecrets).

Josh Mandel called Sherrod Brown "un-American" for voting for the auto loan program. President Obama's auto bailout saved the American auto companies, the jobs they create for hundreds of thousands of Americans in car factories and in part supplier manufacturing plants.  As Andy Kroll at Mother Jones points out, Paul Ryan also voted for the same car bill.

Mother Jones:

....In a joint interview with Brown on Sunday, however, Mandel broke his silence in a big way. He called Brown "un-American" for voting in favor of the auto industry bailout, claiming that non-union retirees at Delphi, a GM parts supplier, got screwed out of of their pensions because of the government bailouts. (As PolitiFact notes, that's not quite true.)

There's a big problem with branding a yes vote on the auto bailout "un-American": The presumptive vice-presidential nominee for Mandel's own party, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.), voted yes for that same bailout. Is Ryan un-American, too?

....Ryan was one of 32 House Republicans to vote for the auto bailout on December 10, 2008, vastly outnumbered by the 150 House GOPers who voted against it. Then-Sen. George Voinovich (R-Ohio), in Congress' upper chamber, also voted in support of the auto bailout; he was joined by seven other Senate Republicans. Is Voinovich also un-American, according to Mandel?...

Those of us that live in Ohio are too familiar with Josh Mandel's smear campaign tactics.  Josh Mandel is being manipulated by his right wing sponsors. He doesn't know much about policy, and as Plunderbund put it, is part of the "Palinization" of the GOP.

Plunderbund:

...Palin famously was a policy and issues vacuum, preferring to rely mainly on empty catch phrases, right-wing rhetoric, and thinly veiled racism. Josh Mandel is like Sarah Palin’s cute little nephew, spewing the latest far right buzzwords like some kind of possessed corporate owned puppet.

The Dispatch was able to witness the first head to head rhetorical matchup between Brown and Mandel, and if their experience is a precursor to debates we might see in the Senate race I’d say Sherrod Brown is in pretty good shape. Despite giving the article a completely false headline that seems to indicate both Mandel and Brown came unhinged [ "Mandel, Brown take off glove"], the article does a good job of highlighting the difference between the sitting senior Senator from Ohio and the wingnut boy wonder Treasurer. There was no point in the actual article where you could come close to claiming that Brown took off any gloves. He was, in fact, quite measured and factual – refusing to even acknowledge Josh Mandel’s sleazy “un-American” attack.

Mandel not only takes his gloves AND his boots off, he starts flailing around like that kid in the sandlot who knows he’s going to lose and decides to start swinging madly in the hopes of landing a good punch....
PlunderBund (http://s.tt/1lGZH)

Why would anyone voted for him? He didn't even know how much money was in the state retirement funds that he is supposedly protecting.

Outsiders like Mandel? Why?

In Ohio, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown continues to be supported by contributions from people in our state.  Open Secrets has the following statistics about campaign contributions for the Senate race:
                                        OUT OF STATE
Sherrod Brown (D)                 38%
Josh Mandel  (R)                     53%

Why are so many people and groups outside of Ohio supporting Republican Josh Mandel? What has he promised them to get their money?
-     -     -     -     -     -
Have you read the interview that the Dispatch did with Sen. Sherrod Brown, and Josh Mandel, Ohio's absent Treasurer?  Mandel's responses make him sound uninformed, and robotic, with an extreme overuse of Republican buzz words.  Mandel seems completely clueless.
*******

• • • Republican Paul Ryan came up with more weird answers.
Washington Post:

Responding to Democratic charges that he sought to narrow the definition of rape when he co-sponsored a House measure last year that used the term “forcible rape,” presumptive GOP vice-presidential nominee Paul Ryan said Monday that the phrase was “stock language” and that he agreed with its eventual removal from the bill....

How many ways can Paul Ryan and the Republicans outlaw federal funds being spent on abortions when it was already passed in 1976? The Republicans are supreme time wasters while they continue to get their paychecks.

Paul Ryan thinks he has foreign policy experience. Really.  Crooks and Liars has Paul Ryan's response to a question about his experience:

Speaking to Fox News’ Carl Cameron Saturday morning, Republican VP nominee Paul Ryan made the case for why he believes his foreign policy credentials are stronger than President Obama’s, emphasizing that he has been a voting member of Congress longer than the president. Ryan cited his votes in favor of the Iraq War as evidence that he has had more foreign policy experience than Obama.....

....“I voted to send people to war,” he added.

As a congressman, Ryan voted for the 2002 Iraq Resolution which authorized President George W. Bush to use military force in Iraq. He also voted in favor of the Iraq War troop “surge” in 2007....

Sending young men and women to war is his foreign policy experience????  Did he also include the fact that he voted against funding at the beginning of those wars?

Josh Mandel---Still An Empty Suit

** In case you missed Plunderbund's take on it, Sen. Sherrod Brown and Josh Mandel met at an interview at the Dispatch.  After reading the article, a sane person would conclude that Sen. Sherrod Brown was the grown up candidate with facts on his side.  However, Josh Mandel sounded a lot like a kid with over memorized talking points as his answers for everything.

Dispatch:

....When Mandel was asked by The Dispatch what he would have done differently at the time the federal loans were offered to the auto companies, as well as what health-care alternative he would offer to “ Obamacare,” Mandel offered a five-minute response about the free-enterprise system, government regulations and Greece before steering to an environmental regulation he has criticized Brown for supporting.

When he was asked again to answer the initial question, Mandel offered general remarks on regulations, energy production and the U.S. tax code. Twelve minutes after Mandel was asked what he would have done differently during the time of the bailout — and it had been suggested to him that he either did not have or was not offering an alternative — Mandel said: “You can write, ‘Josh’s plan would’ve been, and Josh’s plan continues to be, to reform regulations and create a better economic environment for auto manufacturing and manufacturing in general.’  ”

Josh Mandel's response sounded a little disjointed and goofy. Mandel is like a kid that hasn't read a book but tries to convince the teacher he knows what is in the book.  No matter what he says, Josh Mandel sounds like a babbling, right wing puppet.  Words come out of his mouth, but he doesn't even know what they mean. Mandel's ego has been pumped up by his right wing handlers. He has no plans and the only things he does know are the vocabulary words given to him by the likes of Jim DeMint, Karl Rove, Dick Armey, Paul Ryan, and the Americans for (their own) Prosperity.

* If you are thinking about voting for a Republican, remember that they are targeting Social Security, and Medicare.  Through a pledge, Cut, Cap, and Balance, signed by Republican Senators (including Rob Portman, etc. see LINK), House Members (including Paul Ryan, Todd Akin, Jeff Flake, Darrell Issa, Thad McCotter, Patrick McHenry, Ben Quayle, Jim Rinacci, Steve Stivers, Joe Walsh, Allen West, Joe Wilson, etc. see Link), candidates for the Senate and the House (including George Allen, Josh Mandel, Heather Wilson, etc., see LINK), and Mitt Romney (and the rest of the Republican presidential candidates, see LINK), they've vowed to make cuts no matter how many people get hurt.

The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities evaluated the Cut, Cap, and Balance Act and the conclusion is frightening:

...The “Cut, Cap, and Balance Act” that House Republican leaders are circulating achieves these results through a multi-faceted attack on the federal government.  It would require that total federal spending shrink to about 20 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) starting in 2015 (by writing the Ryan budget’s year-by-year expenditure levels as a share of GDP into law, as caps to be enforced through automatic across-the-board budget cuts if the caps otherwise wouldn’t be met).  The Ryan budget would slash non-security discretionary programs by 33 percent by 2021 (relative to CBO’s January baseline), cut Medicaid by $1.4 trillion over the decade, and cut an array of other programs from Medicare to Pell Grants, while shielding the defense budget and further cutting taxes for the wealthiest Americans.

...“Cut, Cap, and Balance,” by contrast, specifically subjects all such programs to across-the-board cuts if its spending caps would be exceeded....

...an impoverished elderly widow living on Supplemental Security Income — which provides benefits that lift people to just 75 percent of the poverty line — could have her assistance cut back under the measure’s across-the-board budget cuts even as millionaire hedge-fund managers retained their lucrative carried-interest tax breaks.

Let me repeat------Republican candidate, Josh Mandel, signed the pledge.

Romney's Prejudice Showing?

* Mitt Romney's said today that no one has ever asked for his birth certificate. Of course, Mitt Romney is a wealthy white man, from a wealthy white family. He went to expensive private schools.  Romney has lived a privileged life and he has managed to always get what he wanted.

Was Romney's comment his way to discredit and disrespect President Obama? Shame on Mitt Romney. This is just another reason to vote against Romney and Ryan.  President Obama has already provided proof of his birth, but the birthers continue to disrespect Obama.

>>> What interesting townhall meetings Paul Ryan has. He doesn't stop the racist comments from a man. This YouTube video shows how Paul Ryan treats women that speak out.

Mandel's March Against Women

Do you remember this?

Writes Like She Talks had a post in 2009 in which Republican Josh Mandel marched in an anti-abortion protest in Cleveland.  The story was carried in the Plain Dealer which had Josh Mandel involved in the march to protest a bill to promote a woman's right to choose.  Mandel marched because he was against it.  The Plain Dealer article reminds the reader that Sen. Sherrod Brown "....supports a woman's right to choose..."

(I wonder if someone has any pictures or videos of Mandel in that march..... Hmmmm.)

Josh Mandel is part of the male-dominated right wing, anti-women, Republican Party.

Women Are Watching reminds us:

Mandel supported the dangerous Blunt amendment, which would allow any business or corporation to deny any essential health care service they object to, including coverage for birth control. Mandel maintained that it was “not an issue about birth control.” [Cleveland Plain Dealer, 3/2/12]

.....Mandel wants to defund Planned Parenthood and jeopardize health care for millions of women. Given the chance, he would end federal funding for lifesaving cancer screenings, birth control, and affordable, quality health care at the drop of a hat. Joining the ranks of Dennis Rehberg, Steve King, and Allen West, Mandel is just another politician who thinks he knows better than women and their doctors. He opposes abortion with no exceptions, even in cases of rape and incest OR to save the life of the woman. Unlike Senator Sherrod Brown, Mandel doesn’t believe women should make their own health care decisions....

.....In the Ohio Senate race the choice is clear: do you want someone who is willing to stand up and protect access to affordable quality care or someone who is so out of touch, he fails to realize the importance of women's health?

Josh Mandel was a vocal supporter of SB 5, the Republican bill that would have jeopardized the futures of teachers, fire fighters, police officers, nurses, and state workers.

Josh Mandel: Puppet of Far Right

* Republican Josh Mandel, Ohio's absent Treasurer, has political commercials on TV only because out of state, right wing, pro-wealthy, anti-middle class special interest groups continue to pour money into his campaign.  However, Josh Mandel has spent so little time in his office as Treasurer that he knows so little about what jobs have been saved in the state and how much money is in the state employees retirement funds (police, fire, teachers, state employees, highway patrol, etc.). Here are some example of the robotic, uninformed responses from Mandel:

Josh Mandel's answer on saving auto jobs in Ohio, from MSNBC's Rachel Maddow Show,  (Mandel's answer at 3:40):

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/#48759281

Josh Mandel doesn't care that President Obama's plan to save the American automakers saved hundreds of thousands of jobs in Ohio and millions of jobs across the country.

Josh Mandel doesn't even know how much money is in the state retirement funds!  The OhioCapitalBlog has the video:

It might be that Mandel thinks he is protecting only $100 billion of the retirement funds. What about the other $65 billion?  That isn't chump change.

Does Josh Mandel refuse to answer because he hasn't been told what to say or because he cannot come up with an answer that is appropriate and in line with his right wing supporters? If not for the right wing PACS which have poured over $15 million into Ohio, Mandel would have no political ads.  What will he owe these groups after the election?  What promises has he made to them on tax cuts for the rich, ending health screenings for cancer, abortion, ending Pell grants, privatizing education, having a war with Iran, ending Social Security and Medicare?  Do you think they'd give him money for nothing?  They expect him to vote the way they dictate.

As a woman, I'm concerned about Josh Mandel and other Republicans that want to restrict women and their reproductive choices.  How dare Mandel and the rest of the Republicans question a woman's personal issues about birth control and abortion?!!! Would they like it if we asked every male Republican how often they use Viagra and other similar drugs?  Mandel and the rest of the GOP might say that question was an invasion of their privacy, but they don't seem to get that they are invading a woman's private decisions.

Josh Mandel is against abortion. He says that he was always pro-choice (although he flip flopped on the issue). If Mandel is against abortion, he probably shouldn't have one.  Mandel has supported the "Heartbeat Bill."

PlainDealer:

...Mandel has expressed support for Ohio's "heartbeat bill," which would outlaw abortions in the state if a fetal heartbeat can be detected. The bill, passed through the Ohio House but stalled in the Senate, contains no exception for rape or incest....

....no exception for rape or incest....

It is not his right or duty to tell a woman what she can and cannot do.  Todd Akin, Josh Mandel, Paul Ryan, Eric Cantor, and the rest of the Republicans have voted to restrict women's reproductive choices. It is none of their business.  Paul Ryan even wanted to restrict a woman's access to birth control pills!!!!!!

The Republicans say they want to "take the country back" but they always leave off the rest of the statement.

The Republican motto should be----

"We want to take out country back to the 1950's ---
no civil rights, no birth control, no rights for women,
no Medicare, no voting rights,
no equal education."

What rights and privileges do the Republicans want you to surrender? If you are a woman or a member of the middle class, voting for a Republican is like shooting yourself in the foot.  They don't care about you.

President Obama Saved Medicare

**** President Obama saved $716 billion by closing the donut hole, cutting overcharges, and cutting costs.  If the Affordable Care Act is repealed, the Romney-Ryan administration would open up the donut hole and seniors would pay more. If Romney and Ryan are able to win and "reform" Medicare, the program would be gone.

NY Times:

Mitt Romney’s promise to restore $716 billion that he says President Obama “robbed” from Medicare has some health care experts puzzled, and not just because his running mate, Representative Paul D. Ryan, included the same savings in his House budgets.

The 2010 health care law cut Medicare reimbursements to hospitals and insurers, not benefits for older Americans, by that amount over the coming decade. But repealing the savings, policy analysts say, would hasten the insolvency of Medicare by eight years — to 2016, the final year of the next presidential term, from 2024....

...What Mr. Romney proposes to restore to Medicare, however, is not money but additional costs, for higher payments to hospitals, insurers and other care providers. Lobbying groups representing some care providers accepted those reductions during the health care debate, and in exchange they got the law’s mandate for nearly all individuals to have insurance, which meant that providers and insurers would have millions of new paying patients and policyholders.....

Allowing Romney and Ryan to get their hands on Medicare would spell disaster for seniors.

•••••  Did you know that Paul Ryan voted for the "let women die" bill???
CBS Pittsburgh:

.....there is something else Paul Ryan is gaining notoriety for, his sponsorship of federal legislation to declare that human life begins at fertilization. “Personhood”, as it is called by its proponents, has failed on every state ballot because of its extreme nature.

“Personhood” would outlaw all abortions, even in the cases of rape, incest and threats to a woman’s health. “Personhood” also criminalizes many forms of birth control, including the pill (which is the most popular form of birth control). It also threatens couples going through in vitro fertilization with criminal charges should something happen to the resulting embryos – or as Ryan would say, the resulting people.....

....Ryan voted for the “let women die” bill which would allow hospitals to refuse to provide a woman emergency, lifesaving abortion care, even if she could die without it.....

Paul Ryan's views about women and our rights are terrible.  Does Paul Ryan think women are second class citizens?
