Ohio Republicans vs. Women (Again)

The Ohio Republicans are at it again! They are pushing a new abortion bill that will force doctors to tell lies to patients.

Plunderbund describes the latest Ohio Republican bill:

...As part of the Bill, for example, a doctor must tell a woman seeking an abortion that an abortion increases her risk of breast cancer.

The biggest problem: this isn’t true.  An expert panel from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) concluded that having an abortion or miscarriage does not increase a woman’s subsequent risk of developing breast cancer.

Even the Columbus Dispatch is so incredulous on this point that they did some actual journalism and fact-checked the claim in the article, writing: “The American Cancer Society says: ‘scientific research studies have not found a cause-and-effect relationship between abortion and breast cancer.’”

Obviously, Ohio Republicans aren't interested in facts.

The Zanesville Times Recorder adds this about this legislation:

A group of Ohio House Republicans introduced a bill that will force some women seeking abortions to undergo invasive ultrasounds.

Rep. Ron Hood, R-Ashville, sponsored House Bill 200 and 34 Republican co-sponsors, including Jeff McClain, R-Upper Sandusky, lent their signatures to the proposal, which also would extend waiting periods for abortions from 24 to 48 hours and make other modifications to Ohio’s “informed consent” law....

...Rep. Kristina Roegner, R-Hudson, one of only two female co-sponsors as reported by The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer, did not return a call seeking comment.

Jezebel also has some interesting remarks about Ohio House Bill 200 here.
