Monday Morning Round-Up

>Ohio Republican Party Chair Robert Bennett thinks that Republican Rep. Deborah Pryce is unbeatable. With the President's approval polls so low and the Republican scandals still in the news, Bennett should never suggest that his candidate is untouchable. You never know what can happen in the world of politics.

>Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland will release his budget this week. With the excesses and scandals of the Taft administration, Strickland will more than likely present a somewhat conservative budget. The ZanesvilleTimes Recorder:

For two months, rookie Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland and the Republican-controlled Legislature have been mostly comfortable with each other. This week, the honeymoon ends.

On Wednesday, Strickland lays out his vision for Ohio for the next two years in his State of the State speech. The next day, he puts that vision in writing when he releases his $50-billion-plus budget — money for everything from schools to locking up criminals to keeping parks clean....


>Ohio's unemployment rate continues to remain high. Unfortunately, we are still suffering from the lack of development under Taft. ODJS: Ohio's unemployment rate was 5.3 percent in January, down from 5.6 percent in December, according to data released this morning by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. Ohio's nonfarm wage and salary employment decreased 12,000 over the month, from 5,442,800 in December to 5,430,800 in January.....

>The mess in Afghanistan is President Bush's own fault. While he took troops out of Afghanistan and sent them to Iraq, the dangerous terrorists were able to make a comeback in Afghanistan. Now Bush is asking for 8200 more troops to be sent to Afghanistan. How much more of the these screw ups can we handle?
