Kasich and Husted: Two to Avoid

Even though Republican John Kasich says that Ohioans pay too much in taxes, his claims do not stand up to the facts.

Dispatch:

Ohioans continue to pay less in state taxes than residents of most other states do, according to the latest figures from the U.S. census.

Census data compiled by the Federation of Tax Administrators shows Ohio in 2009 ranked 35th highest in state-tax collections per capita, and 33rd highest in collections as a percentage of income.

"These new figures bear out what we've been saying: Ohio is not a high-tax state, certainly not where state taxes are concerned," Ohio Tax Commissioner Richard A. Levin said....

There you have it. Do Ohioans want to believe the facts or Kasich's lies? Kasich is a big follower of the Reagan trickle down economic theory---- give tax cuts to the rich and the money will trickle down to the middle class and the poor. Unfortunately, Kasich's past work indicates that poor farmers, working class families, and the poor would suffer the most in any Kasich tax cut plan (see cbpp.org). Kasich has never demonstrated his passion for regular people--- just the wealthy, like himself.

>>>> WTAP has a quote from the most ambitious officeholder in the state (he jumps from one public office to another), Republican Jon Husted (state senator for Kettering, but lives in Upper Arlington).

He's currently a State Senator, and was Speaker of the Ohio House, but Jon Husted says he doesn't have any immediate goals beyond being the next Secretary of State....

...."I'm going to stay focused on the office of Ohio Secretary of State, and restore that confidence in our election system. When that's done, I'll do something else. But that's the focus that I have right now."

Husted adds he intends to limit the influence secretaries of state have had in recent presidential elections.

Really? Is Husted serious? Anyone who has dealt with Husted knows that if he doesn't like something, he yells until he gets his way. I don't believe for a second that he'll sit back, act like a wall flower, and just let things happen. In the last Presidential election (2008), there were enough ballots, voting machines, and plenty of access for voters. Ohioans enjoyed few problems with Democrat Jennifer Brunner in charge. (The only complaints came from Republicans, like Husted.) After the backroom "counting" of votes like we had under Republican Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell, I don't think Ohioans want a return to those horrible election nightmares when the Republicans controlled the voting.
