More On the Ohio GOP Plan to Punish Ohio Workers and Vets

*****  More on SB 5 from the Lancastereaglegazette:

...State Sen. Tim Grendell, R-Chesterland, said Senate Republicans didn't even meet in caucus to discuss the final version of the bill before it hit the floor. Grendell was one of six Republicans opposing the bill.

He speculates the bill's backers want to have it signed by April 6. That way, if labor wants to send it to a referendum, it will have to be on this November's ballot.

Republicans would rather have a large turnout by labor in an off-year, as opposed to a presidential election year, Grendell said, because anyone supporting labor unions also likely would support Democrats on the national ballot....

Isn't it amazing how the Republicans are doing their best to manipulate everything in their favor?

>>>   If that wasn't bad enough, Gov. Kasich is providing us with more baloney.  You'll have to get out your hip boots to read through this.
The DailyRecord:

Gov. John Kasich has a message for the union representatives and their families concerned about the impact of controversial collective bargaining reform moving through the Legislature.

"What we are doing in this state is designed to make sure that your kids have a future in this state," Kasich told reporters at the Statehouse on Friday. "That your kids can stay in this state, that they can have jobs in this state and that your family can be prosperous....."

"I don't anticipate some big deal, because this is hard for people. ... I want to be respectful of other people's feelings, their thoughts and their emotions."

Yeah.  Sure.  If you believe Kasich, I have some swampland........

______

Currently, under Ohio law, veterans who leave the military and take a teaching job receive credit for 5 years of teaching on the pay scale.  However, keeping with the Republican plan to punish teachers, firefighters, police officers, nurses, and public workers, the Republicans now want to punish veterans.

Veterans!!!!!!!

In SB 5, veterans would no longer receive that 5 years of teaching credit.

Kasich and the Republicans have just added another group on their list of people who are losing worker protections and rights.  Yet Kasich says this is for the children.  Really?  Really.  I think that a majority of Ohioans believe that statement from Kasich is just pure, unadulterated, you-know-what.

*****  By the way, Ohio Sen. Shannon Jones says she wrote most of SB 5.  Most does not mean all.  Has anyone asked her what other person/persons/groups helped her write the legislation? (Did she get any support from "ALEC"?  See below.)

>>>>>  Even though Republican Rep. Steve Stivers (OH-15th), a former bank lobbyist, received major support from Tea Party supporters and Glenn Beck's 912 sheeple, he has not joined the Tea Party Caucus in the House of Representatives.

Examiner:

...When the TPC met Monday, The Hill reported that about 30 members, including 11 freshmen, showed up.

Of the 11 freshmen Republicans who joined the TPC - Reps. Sandy Adams (Fla.), Tim Huelskamp (Kansas), Stephen Fincher (Tenn.), Vicky Hartzler (Mo.), Mick Mulvaney (S.C.), Dennis Ross (Fla.), Marlin Stutzman (Ind.), Tim Walberg (Mich.), Rich Nugent (Fla.), Joe Walsh (Ill.) and [Allen] West [Fla.] - not one of them was an Ohio Congressmen.

....Former Congressional District seats held by Democrats went to Republican rookies Bob Gibbs in the 18th, Bill Johnson in the 6th, Jim Renacci in the 16th and Steve Stivers in the 15th....
The Tea Party/912 activists must be disappointed.  These Republicans catered to their groups, and received their votes, but now they've tossed their proposals and beliefs out in the trash.

A website called Because I Can, has exposed some lawmakers that received money from
ALEC (Koch, WalMart, and Coors), and now are getting special congrats from the group.  Guess which Ohio lawmakers are listed.  You are correct!

Steve Stivers (R)
Bob Gibbs (R)

Here is some additional information from the Because I Can website:

ALEC – brings together private sector companies – such as Koch Industries and Walmart, for the purpose of  “issues are debated by task forces of members, and policies adopted.”  AND  “ALEC “model bills” (aka Model Legislation) are introduced in task force meetings and voted on by ALEC members at each of three national meetings. Public sector (state legislators) and private sector (companies, foundations and nonprofits) members vote on each model bill separately”  (Wiki)

What this means is that private sector companies – such as(but not limited to) right wing companies such as  Koch Industries, Coors Brewing, AT&T and Walmart -  are writing “model legislation” that legislature members then introduce as State and Federal bills.  Some examples of the “model legislation” are posted on a public web site.  I’m sure in the “members only” area of the web site more controversial “model legislation” is kept, for members “eyes only”, for legislative members to “copy, print and present” as bills in their State or at the Federal level.

Isn't that special?  Stivers and Gibbs are getting special "model legislation" that shows them how to write legislation that will make Koch, WalMart, and Coors happy.  I guess the "model legislation" papers they get are sort of a fill-in the blank material that all they have to do in write in their names and dates.   I'd be interested to know what legislation Stivers and Gibbs have been given written  that ALEC wants submitted to the House.
