In my own informal poll, people are just plain disgusted with Gov. John Kasich and the Republicans. Every person I've talked to has voiced his/her displeasure, shock, and disappointment in Kasich and the GOP. People are just flabbergasted at the tone and vindictiveness the far right has used in targeting teachers, firefighters, police officers, and state employees. The Republicans I've talked with are embarrassed at the comments attributed to Kasich:
1. calling a police officer an idiot three times in a public speech in front of state employees.(1)
2. calling union protections and prison reform "low-hanging fruit." (2)
3. says he is opposes paying union-scale prevailing wages on public job sites, doesn’t think public employees should have the right to strike, and opposes using binding arbitration to resolve contract disputes involving police officers and firefighters...." (2)
4. saying he wanted to "break the back of organized labor in the schools." (3)
With the Republican plan to abolish seniority for public workers, I wonder how many experienced teachers, police, firefighters, and other state employees will be fired when districts and local governments need to cut costs. Will the firing of the older more experienced workers then be grounds for age discrimination suits?
