* The state of Ohio has adopted a temporary budget until a final budget can be hammered out by all. Republicans said they are against adding slot machines to racetracks to help fix the state's financial crisis. Even though all of the Republicans are against it now, some were for the slots in the past. What? A flip-flop?
Ohio Dems:
In May 2007, Senate President Bill Harris and Ohio Senate Republicans voted for “video racing terminals” (VRTs) at racetracks across the state. The legislation was S.B. 125. It passed the Senate 25-8, but wasn’t taken up by the House. The bill would have instituted video gambling at Ohio racetacks without a vote of the people.
Now, Senator Harris is citing newfound moral objections to video gambling at Ohio racetracks, even though he voted for it in 2007. He is also now claiming that expanded gambling at Ohio racetracks requires a vote by the people of Ohio, even though he previously voted for racetrack video gambling that did not require a vote of the people.
Governor Strickland’s proposal to allow video lottery terminals (VLTs) at Ohio racetracks has become a sticking point in the Ohio budget negotiations between the Governor and Harris. Harris is using VLTs as an issue to stonewall the budget process, even though he supported video racetrack gambling in the past....
If you see Bill Harris, ask him why he is not wearing flip flops.
