Three Year Degrees?

After putting forth a budget that cuts funding to K-12 education and higher education in Ohio, Gov. John Kasich, has thrown another stink bomb into the public arena:  3 year college degrees.

I know that you are asking yourself what type of educational background John Kasich has that allows him to propose a three year program for a college degree.  He certainly did some guest lecturing at Ohio State ($50,000/yr. for approximately one hour of work per month), but that is not a qualification for even suggesting a re-tooling of degree programs.  It is possible to complete a degree in three years by attending summer programs, but that doesn't necessarily cost a student any less money.

Cleveland.com:
Gov. John Kasich has ordered the state's four-year universities to prepare "pathways" to three-year degrees.

But there already are avenues for motivated students to graduate in less than four years, and other options may not be feasible, some college officials say.

As part of the governor's commitment to make college more affordable, his budget proposal submitted to the legislature requires universities to prepare plans to offer three-year undergraduate degrees for 10 percent of their programs by 2012 and for 60 percent by 2014.....

It seems as though John Kasich thinks he won an election as Ohio's emperor.  Why does he seem to be overreaching and grabbing power in every aspect of our lives? A diary at DailyKos defines the Republican power grab as, "GOP Overreach: The Mess That Greed and Ignorance Made."
